I know they are retired. But that would be the most scariest list you could think of.

Wasn't a Cat 5 at landfall there were only three of those.

Dora was the last hurricane to whack Jacksonville and also has been retired. Dora should have remained over Donna

"Whenever a hurricane has had a major impact, any country affected by the storm can request that the name of the hurricane be “retired” by agreement of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Retiring a name actually means that it cannot be reused for at least 10 years, to facilitate historic references, legal actions, insurance claim activities, etc. and avoid public confusion with another storm of the same name. If that happens, a like gender name is selected in English, Spanish or French for Atlantic Storms."

"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, The Retirement of Hurricane Names"

If names were retired forever, they would eventually run out.

Good to see you are alive and well Derek......

Dora also permanently rerouted A1A as a major area of that road disappeared into history.

no they wouldn't run out of names. They'd just have ot get more creative. Try these out:

Hurricane Lindaloo
Hurricane Pebbles
Hurricane SirCane
Hurricane Sanibel

you get the idea. We all deserve it for our respect of the 'Canes!

Although I don't really think they would have a problem with running out of names, it could be a problem with finding less 'normal' names.
I think 10 years is much too short. That means that there could be an Andrew added to the list as soon as another A male name is retired.

It should be, IMO, 20-30 year wait time.

Now here's a scary list. Especially if we get up to "O."

Ashton
Britney
Calista
Dakota
Elvis
Fiona
Gwyneth
Hillary
Iggy
Jessica
Kato
Lindsay
Meryl
Nicole
Orenthal
Paris
Roseanne

Edited to take out the Q, and because Kato and Roseanne are much funnier (and scarier) than Keira or River. And I just realized they're not boy-gir-boy-girl. Doh! Oh well.
