Unfamiliar Feeling...

#1 Postby MWatkins » Sun Sep 26, 2004 10:28 pm

For the first time in...well...whenever...my daily routine has not consisted of:

6:45AM: Waking up to see latest satellite imagery, checking on the 6Z GFS and the 0Z Euro.
7:45AM: Reading GFDL Guidance
8:20AM: Getting CI numbers from SAB/TAFB/AFWA
11:00AM: Catching up on advisories
12:30PM: Analyzing GFS output
1:00PM: Analyzing NOGAPS output
1:30PM: Analyzing UKMET, GFDL Output
2:20PM: CI numbers again
3:00PM: 12Z Euro
5:00PM: Advisories
6:30PM: Analyize 18Z GFS
7:30PM: Analyize 18Z GFDL
8:30PM: t-numbers
9:00PM to 12:00AM: Talk tropics on Talkin Tropics and or radio.nhcwx.com
12:30AM: 00Z GFS
12:45AM: 00Z NOGAPS
2:00AM: Finally get UKMET guidance and new GFDL. Go to bed and start over again.

I really honestly don't know what to do with myself. I found myself reading model guidance on instinct alone today.

Not to minimize what is currently happening with Jeanne...but the Charley/Frances/Ivan/Jeanne cycle has left my brain hyper-stimulated. I was able to pass the time today checking in with friends...taking pannels down and cleaning up after moving lawn furnature back in.

Oh..also...my boys got me the best birthday presents ever. The older one...without any ideas from any adults...cleaned his room as clen a it's ever been...and the little guy wrapped up some hurricane pictures and books I already own with pillow cases, blankets and envelopes and gave them to me again as gifts...

Tomorrow...work is without power. The boys go back to school...and it's just me alone with me. I shudder to think what will happen. And...after all...no immediate threat anywhere in the basin is a good thing, right?

Folks in and along Jeannes path should be prepared for gusty winds and the possibility of tornados over the next day or so. My thoughts are with everyone who has dealt with this storm...and consider myself very very lucky to even be able to post this rambling thread this evening.

LOL Mike, take it easy man...we thank you sincerely for the hard work you've put in during this most unusual and active of seasons...while there is an apparent lull in tropical activity, you might want to invest in that little thing called sleep  ;)

Oh, and I hope you had a nice birthday. :D :layout:

Geez Mike... sleep in til Noon tomorrow dude.

I'm already starting to feel bored here as well. Guess it's back to watching The Price is Right and everything else tomorrow instead of just having it on as noise while I stare at this screen, LOL

Oh and Happy Birthday. 8-)

MW, we so appreciate all of your forecasting and efforts. You deserve a long rest, but I truly understand how you don't know what to do next. We don't want or need another hurricane, but....it has become the new normal. No satellite loops to check on? No supplies to buy? Let's hope we consider that a "good thing."

I hope you had a terrific birthday, Mike. Maybe the Tropics will give you a gift of some relief from the hectic activity for at least an appreciable period of time.

Is that all you do is study the tropics? There's plenty of significant weather out there to study...the pattern's are changing and it looks to be a fierce winter. I'm an amateur, but, I'm already grossly involved in China and Siberia looking for the first significant fronts, as well, as analyzing Alaska....nevertheless, glad you've gotten a break!!

Yes, our "routine" is shot.
I am stunned to see how quickly everyone wants to "get back to normal".

Thanks for all you do here, and
Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday MWatkins!

I also appreciate your forecasting, the time and effort you put into this and at times the humor.
