Structural damage on every beachfront home for 30 miles

#1 Postby logybogy » Mon Sep 27, 2004 11:18 am

A Herald survey conducted by helicopter found structural damage to nearly every beachfront home along a 30-mile stretch of coast from Vero Beach to Melbourne. On Hutchinson Island, piles of sand stood inside some crumbled homes. In Vero Beach, the storm surge washed away a half-mile stretch of beachside road and completely defaced a 13-story condominium.

These structures were probably weakened by Frances. Damage in these cases is accumulative...

Does anyone know if the Driftwood Resort in Vero suffered any major damage?

I'd like to see the 13-story condo (not that I would necessarily recognize it). I went there way back in the 80's when my mom's best friend owned a place out there. I tried to call her (in KY) shortly after Frances, but only got a recording. I'm wondering how the place fared in both storms. Unfortunately, I only remember that it was on the beach, but I don't recall the name of it or exactly how it looked.

There are pictures on the Palm Beach Post site that show condo damage in Vero as well as damage to the Driftwood Inn
