Of Note: Hurricane Janet was also the hurricane in which the only lost reconnaissance mission has occurred. They were never found.

Also of Note: Gaston will not be retired as he did not cause a significant amount of damage or deaths. (Note: all landfalling systems are not retired...usually Damage must be above $2 Billion and/or have at least 20 Deaths)

My list so far:

Alex
Bonnie
Clinton
Danielle
Earl
Freida
Gaston
Hermine
Inocente
Julia
Karl
L
M
N
O
P
R
S
T
V
W

(L-W left blank due to storms not yet finished/occurred)

In case you were curious, occasionally an Eastern Pacific or Central Pacific storm gets retired. Sometimes the name just simply gets replaced, although on some occasions, it is because of a destructive storm.

Here are the 10 storms that have been retired in the Eastern and Central Pacific:

1978 Hurricane Fico (Category 4)
1982 Hurricane Iwa (Category 1)
1987 Tropical Storm Knut
1988 Hurricane Iva (Category 2)
1991 Hurricane Fefa (Category 3)
1992 Hurricane Iniki (Category 4)
1995 Hurricane Ismael (Category 1)
1997 Hurricane Pauline (Category 4)
2001 Hurricane Adolph (Category 4)
2002 Hurricane Kenna (Category 5)

Is the record for number of retired names four? Because if it is, we will tie it this year(I know Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne will be retired).

Jasmine or Juliette. They sound too nice to do any damage or hurt anyone.

Juliette is already an EPAC. It was most recently used in 2001.

Let's see..........

Names listed as French:
Jacqueline
Jerrie
Jewel
Joie
Jolie
Julie

Out of those, I'd pick Julie.

LOL Juliet could be bad if there's a Romeo - he'd want to come after her, so we'd get to an R storm :)

I like Julie, Jackie or Jacqueline, Jasmine, Josette....Think they'll let us Storm2Kers get a vote????

Jeanne is also an English name....it just depends upon how you pronounce it

In French, Jeanne would not be pronounced "Gene" or "Genie" like the English versions.....but would instead be pronounce "Je-AHN"

:) Your Daily French Lesson. :)
