So much for Atlanta not getting rain. WHATS UP WITH THAT????

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I have gotten as of right now 2.12" of rain since the event started with another good 3-6 hrs worth of heavier rain to come. I think that they were a little off on the estimate of 1/2"-2" of rain. And it is very windy.

A lot of people said so. The FFC which is are forecast area said Atlanta wouldnt see over 1/2". Stormsfury said it looked like most of the rain could miss Atlanta in a topic posted last night. So a lot of people were not expecting this amount of rain. Not even me.

The Raleigh, NC National Weather Service is forecasting showers and thunderstorms for the next two days,
some of which will be heavy at times. I assume you know Flood Watches are up for most of North Carolina.

We were to get a ton of rain and stuff today. It rained this morning at 7am and most of the day has been sunny and blue skies. Looks like most of the rain is your way.

no i do know that i just thought the center was practically coming over raleigh, but it seems like most of it including the heavier steadier rains will go west of us.

We're getting whomped in NW Metro right now. Commute home from work ought to be lots of fun. (not).

They've been under-playing Jeanne's impact on ATL since the git-go. I posted about this during the weekend. I had a bad feeling they were gonna do it to us again....and looks like they did.

Clayton County, or the City of Clayton? They're two very different locales.

If you're asking about Clayton County (near Hartsfield), judging by the current radar, I think it would be safe to say they're getting whomped too.

Another member (Jeny) posted for the first time yesterday complaining that the locals weren't discussing Jeanne and pretty much brushed off Ivan as well. She was concerned because her kids were in school when Ivan came through and SENT THEM HOME DURING THE STORM! :grr:

Perhaps with TWC in Atlanta, the local news station probably feel they just need a bobble head doll to do the weather.

I still have "heavy rain" forecasted my my area tomorrow. To me, that would suggest that Jeanne either a) comes through Atlanta or b) doe another loopty - loop around Atlanta through the Appalachians into the Mid Atlantic.

Yep. Kids are in school today...parents are at work...and they've got some pretty miserable conditions to drive through to pick up their progeny. Silly me, when things didn't look bad this morning...I decided to send my kids to school. Even at lunch time, I felt confident in that decision. NOW....I am beginning to regret it.

I'm planning to leave work about 30 minutes early--to allow for the gawd-awful Atlanta commute in the rain/wind. We don't drive here so well--in the best of circumstances.

THIS commute ought to be fun.

I will. And NEXT TIME (heaven forbid), and I MEAN IT, I am listening to my motherly instincts. I will work from home and my kids will be at home when the storm gets ugly.

What scares me most is being at work--so far from them--and (somehow) not being able to get to them at school.

I don't like driving in poor conditions with idiots on the road who a) drive too fast for conditions b) don't use their headlights or turn signals c) cut in front of you, weave in and out of lanes on the highway (as if that gets them home sooner or they're more important than the rest of us) and d) just generally drive dangerously, while being angry and impatient with those of us who take care, e) possibly causing a wreck--injuring or killing innocent people.

That's what worries me most. A wreck or other catastrophe that prevents me from reaching my children.

So...leaving in 30 minutes...before it gets worse....

If you look at the radar, it's clear a squall has set up over the metro area. Outside of those... conditions are much better. I'm 80 miles southwest of Atlanta, light to occasionally moderate rain all day and some gusts to 30 mph.

Not really a squall but actually a deformation band (now Jeanne's looking extratropical ...) ...

Yeah, I missed Jeanne's rain shield to the W and NW of the center, and I was a bit concerned about this before I went to sleep last night ... but a big reason is that a core of SW winds aloft never materialized and never had a chance to lopside the western edge of the system ... in fact, the dry slot wrapped up on the eastern side of the cyclone, and almost resembles an occluded low ...
