Can you explain "strong winds from Canada" & J

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Can you explain "strong winds from Canada" & J

#1 Postby Persepone » Mon Sep 27, 2004 5:59 pm

Can anyone explain the "strong winds from Canada" and their relationship to the remnants of Jeanne?

I realize that in the context of Jeanne in Florida this question is trivial, but I'm very curious about the weather statement.

It sounds as if Jeanne will not come near us (although we have some clouds that look as if they may be from Jeanne Remnants if you look at satellite image) but we have a "wind" issue here anyway. Are these related? Are the remnants of Jeanne somehow "pulling" the strong winds down from Canada?

This is a very odd advisory, it seems. Yesterday there was a "bear watch" for strong winds as a result of Jeanne. Now there seems to be still a strong winds potential--but from a different source.

Can anyone explain what I'm looking at?

...REMNANTS OF HURRICANE JEANNE WILL IMPACT THE REGION TUESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY...

THE REMNANTS OF HURRICANE JEANNE WILL AFFECT PARTS OF SOUTHERN NEW
ENGLAND DURING TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT. SHOWERS WILL MOVE THROUGH
THE REGION DURING THE DAY...WITH LOCALLY HEAVY DOWNPOURS POSSIBLE
ACROSS PARTS OF RHODE ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS. STRONG
WINDS DRAWN SOUTH FROM CANADA WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION TUESDAY
NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.

TROPICAL STORM JEANNE WAS LOCATED OVER NORTHERN FLORIDA EARLY THIS
MORNING. IT WILL MOVE NORTHWARD AND BE LOCATED OVER CENTRAL NORTH
CAROLINA TUESDAY AFTERNOON...THEN RE-ENTER THE ATLANTIC OCEAN MOVING
OUT TO SEA. THE STORM WILL PASS WELL SOUTH OF NANTUCKET ON
WEDNESDAY.

AT THIS TIME...SHOWERS WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION FROM SOUTHWEST TO
NORTHEAST VERY LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY MORNING. THE HEAVIEST
RAIN IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR OVER SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS AND THE
OUTER-ISLANDS. RAINFALL SHOULD TOTAL 1 OR 2 INCHES ACROSS RHODE
ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS...WITH LESSER AMOUNTS TO THE
NORTH AND NORTHWEST. SOME OF THE HEAVIER SHOWERS MAY CAUSE PONDING OF
WATER IN POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. OTHERWISE...NO FLOODING PROBLEMS ARE
EXPECTED. THE RAIN WILL END ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION TUESDAY NIGHT.

A SECOND CONCERN WILL BE FOR STRONG WINDS. THESE WINDS ARE EXPECTED
TO DEVELOP TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY ON THE TRAILING SIDE OF THE
STORM...DRAWN SOUTH AS IT PASSES WELL TO OUR SOUTH. WIND GUSTS TO 35
MPH ARE EXPECTED...WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH POSSIBLE OVER PARTS OF CAPE
COD AND THE ISLANDS.

THE POSSIBILITY OF MINOR COASTAL FLOODING ON NORTH AND NORTHEAST
FACING BEACHES HAS DIMINISHED. THIS IS BECAUSE THE FORECAST TRACK OF
THE STORM IS NOW FARTHER TO THE SOUTH.

FINALLY...BUILDING SEAS MAY RESULT IN RIP CURRENTS TUESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY. THE MAIN RISK FOR RIP CURRENTS WOULD BE ALONG SOUTH COAST
BEACHES. IF THESE CONDITIONS DO DEVELOP...HIGH SURF ADVISORIES MAY
EVENTUALLY NEED TO BE ISSUED.

STAY TUNED TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO AND OTHER LOCAL MEDIA FOR FURTHER
DETAILS OR UPDATES.

After Jeanne's passage, a cold front is progged to move through the area bringing a bout of strong, gusty winds behind the associated frontal passage, and cooler weather ...

Thanks Stormsfury,

I just did not expect to see this after they announced that Jeanne was passing further south than originally forecast.

Wondered what was going on.

I'd look for member "btornado", who is voluteering to work at the top of Mt.Washington this week.
My guess is that he/she'd be able to discuss "strong winds from canada" very well.
