Tropical Wave Forms Off Coast Of Africa

#1 Postby fairweather_sailor » Mon Sep 27, 2004 10:15 pm

Hi, my first post. I'm in Florida and have endured all 3 of the hurricanes. Unless we go by boat, leaving our house is impossible...
please someone tell me that the news below is not a threat to Florida.

There's a tropical wave to keep an eye on in the eastern Atlantic.

The wave is about 130 miles east of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving west at 11 to 16 miles per hour.

The tropical wave is centered along latitude 21 to 22 west and longitude 17.

The National Hurricane Center says satellite imagery shows a broad circulation moving off the coast of Africa. Forecasters say there is some moderate convection.

There's still two months to go in the Atlantic Hurricane season, which ends Nov. 30.

Who knows, its thousands of miles away and the media is just trying to scare people. I guess they succeeded.

If it is a U.S. threat... it'd be at least 10-14 days away and it's pretty far north so definite fish IMO(no threat to land)

It's IMO doubtful a tropical wave that far north this late in September would make it all the way across before a trough turned it northward, but it still bears watching.....the way this crazy season has been going, nothing will surprise me.

Most likely if lisa go were the NHC says its going, then that tropical wave will get caught in that weakness left behind by lisa.

I just watched the 11pm news and they said there was nothing in the Tropics. Anyways, I wouldn't worry about it. Even if it turned out to be something there is lots of time before it could. With all we've been through in Florida, why worry early, save the energy for later. I don't worry until we are in the 24hr before a supposed landfall and even then, I'm skeptical. I hate getting ready for hurricanes that don't hit more than the ones that do. I know that is just the nature of things, the NHC does a good job but they are not God and everytime I ask one of our friends, who is excellent at predicting where a hurricane is going to make landfall as it gets close, says only God knows and He is not telling. This friend of ours lived in Florida from about the 1930's or maybe before, and he was a fisherman and he's a weather buff. He said there were plenty of hits on Florida back then.

Don't worry about that wave. Conditions are not conducive to intensification.

Oh no, not another one. Please no more hurricanes this season, haven't Floridians been through enough pain and fear and anguish already?

Please, not another one.
