This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

JEANNE remnants moving NORTH, not east

#1 Postby Anonymous » Tue Sep 28, 2004 12:08 am

Jeanne's remnants are moving north, not east.

Therefore this system will be a major flooder for the western Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania mountains and northward through tomorrow. Orographics will likely wring out 6 to 12 inches of rain in those areas.

I think now that eastern Virginia, eastern NC and the delmarva are going to get off really easy in the rainfall department with this system. In fact I would not be surprised to see Woodbridge get some peeks of sunshine and perhaps go to partly cloudy skies tomorrow. HOWEVER.......the sunshine in the eastern part of Virginia could lead to tornadic potential as feeder bands move over eastern VA during the day as the system moves north into western PA and on into western NY with torrential rains there.

Look out western Virginia and West Virginia and western PA, if you think you are going to get by with light rain amounts, you had best think again: The heavy rains are headed straight for your region!!!!

Look at these radars.

So eastern Virginia you can breathe again: NO flooding rains this go around, we lucked out this time!!! :)

All we have to worry about are possible tornadoes as a few feeder bands sweep through tomorrow then we are in the clear!!!

WOOOO---HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Yeah we dodged the bullet!!!!

Man I am so VERY GLAD I do not live in the mountains!!! Frankly, that radar scares the bejesus out of me....those rains are gonna flood heck outa those valleys in the Blue Ridge. I feel sorry for those poor folks, but I am glad this thing went more north than progged.

PHEW!!!!!!!!! Then it's good-bye Jeanne and Good Riddance!!
With any luck we'll be finished with 'canes for the rest of this year!!! :)

thanks for this- I had expected to wake up to a deluge- instead ( I can not believe I am typuing this) I need to go turn on the sprinkler.

All these canes have kept their rains west and north of me........I need some rain.

And no one west of me wants another drop...

Wonder what the Delaware will do this time???

The rain line in Western PA has not moved North in the past hour.

Pittsburgh's forecast for today is "a passing shower in the morning". After the flooding we got from Ivan....if we get any substantial rain today, people will be storming KDKA's offices and demanding the met's heads on sticks

BTW, looks like more of a Central-Eastern PA rain event, than a Western PA rain event.

It's been only light misty drizzle here so far in Philly and at McGuire AFB.(9:00AM) We don't need anymore rain, the Delaware blocked my way home last time, rt 29 was closed and took the detour and found myself going to NY

here we go again:

Flood Watch Issued For Most Of Region
Storm May Bring Heavy Rain
NWS BULLETIN

The NWS in Mount Holly N.J. has issued a Flood watch for eastern Pennsylvania, Northern And Western New Jersey, Northern Delaware, and Extreme Northeastern Maryland until 600 a.m. EDT Wednesday morning. Moist tropical air from the remnants of once Hurricane Jeanne has become entrenched over the mid-Atlantic region. Rain and rain showers Have been occurring most of the morning, especially in the Lehigh Valley, The Southern Poconos, And Central And northern new jersey. With more rain on the way, stream flooding is now a possibility, especially on smaller waterways, so a flood watch has been issued.

I drove through a couple of downpours this morning on the way to Atlantic City, but for the most part it's been rather humid and the sun has been peaking out. I've been looking at the radar and Jeanne is moving SLOWLY to the east and it looks like the rain is starting to pop up over Southern New Jersey.

We have been VERY FORTUNATE with the remnants of Charley and Frances being to the west of us - to the detriment of those in the Appalachians . :( We received more rain from Charley than Frances. It looks like we may eek something out of Jeanne yet.

Woodbridge has gotten off really easy this go-around with the remnants of Jeanne. So far, we've picked up a quarter-inch of rain here. Most of the flooding heavy stuff has been pretty much to our west, and the really great news is, it's gonna stay that way. Places to our west are getting hammered by a lot of rain but we are getting by scot-free!!! :) :) :)

I bet we will squeak by with about a half-inch of rain from this!!

Tomorrow we will be jumping for joy as Jeanne will definitely be history and the very likely possibility that this will be our LAST brush with tropical weather in 2004!!!

Man, I really feel for western Virginia, you guys have been getting hit HARD by heavy rain, but I am so VERY glad that Woodbridge is out of the woods!!!

We have been so lucky this year, and hurricane season is winding down now.
