I've got a lot of family over that way, and one was telling that he
heard that an automated station near Jay, Florida, recorded a gust to 155.
Jay is close to the state line, North of Pensacola, and the core
did pass directly over them.
Anyone else know of this recorded gusting speed?

On another MB someone reported a gust of 160+ at Hurlbert Field before the anemometer broke.

USAF Anemometers are notorious for giving bogus high wind speeds in very high winds; I don't know if they've been improved or replaced in the last couple of years, but there was a celebrated "highest wind ever recorded" from Guam in Typhoon Paka that turned out to be completely bogus, and a very high gust at Keesler AFB in Georges that turned out to be bogus as well.

Yes, the FMQ-13 is known for giving bogus wind reports at high speeds. They are trying to phase in new anemometers that have a better accuracy, but that will be a few more years before that is complete. (It's not a top priority objective... or even close to that, thanks to the latest developments in USAF Weather)
The best way to see if a station is using a old or new anemometer is to look at the raw METAR report. If "WND DATA ESTMD" appears in the remarks section, it's old.
