Charley, Frances or Jeanne..?

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Wed Sep 29, 2004 8:33 am

Which do you think did the worst damage to Central Florida..? I think it was Charley because Charley was the only 1 where his eye actually came over where I was at..

Though Frances and Jeanne both had some nasty eye walls..

Charley. While his core was very small, he had the strongest winds. The damage in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda is not comparable to anywhere else from Frances and Jeanne.

Although I endured both Frances and Jeanne, I voted Charley as having caused the most damage in Central FL based on what I have seen and read on the Internet, in the paper and on TV.

Charley roughed us up.. He had winds easily in the 80's and 90's even up here..

I think Frances had winds in the 60's and 70's here.. and I think winds may have been in the 70's or 80's here during Jeanne..

I would have to say Charley... extremely small storm (in comparison to Frances, Ivan and Jeanne).

That's a tough question. Charley did so much damage up front, the other two may have not had as many things to destroy. Proximity is everything.

I do believe that if we hadn't had Charley first, that Jeanne would have been nearly as destructive to Central FL.
Just the fact that Charley did the worst and Frances came along to help "sweep up", masked the damage that could have occurred with Jeanne.
Plus, many more folks boarded up for Jeanne, than Charley.

Think it might be a toss up between Charley and Jeanne depending on what criteria you use. Charley destroyed more individual property as in Punta Gorda but Jeanne did a number on Florida's economic base (80% of this years orange crop destroyed and tourism on both sides of the state at high risk for recovery anytime soon. For me personally it was Jeanne. Eye went over us.

Went through all three also. Charley by far had the worst winds, but thankfully, was a fast moving storm. Jeanne was the wettest, water, water, everywhere, and may turn out to have caused way more water damage and flooding than either of the other two. Still, Charley gets my vote as the most destructive.

It depends on how you look at it... Charley was clearly the strongest and damge was impressive but affected the least area..... Frances was slow moving and largest but the weakest but affected a lot of people.... Jeanne was pretty good size and in the middle strengthwise. However, It could have caused the most damage cuz the other two weakened everything before it got there thus easier to destroy.... Overall, I said Frances was the most destructive.

Charley caught everyone offguard. With the other 2.. everyone was already "prepared".

My parents in Volusia say Charley, hands down. The other two just exacerbated the wind damages and contributed to flooding of their home, that they didn't get with Charley. Still, they said Charley, because their house was right under Charley's eye path.
