This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

You all have written some good posts on the subject. I really don't think there is all that much I can add at this point. Besides, with dynamic met courses and everything it is difficult to "post up a storm", so to speak. *sly smile*

Personally, I've always made every attempt not to wishcast for a severe wx event. Mostly I wishcast for cold weather! I watched Ivan get ever so close in the days prior to landfall, with a feeling of absolute dread. I knew what major hurricanes could do to people's lives and property. I knew it was not going to be fun. Its one thing to want to experience severe wx events. I've been chasing in the Midwest the last two years. Its another thing entirely to influence a forecast based on desire alone. It won't be accurate and it will only hurt and confuse people who must have accurate, timely information in order to save life and property.

Many times this season I've logged in, saw all the flaming, and logged back out. I sure didn't need it a couple of weeks ago with Ivan breathing down my neck. That being said, I don't mind if someone makes a forecast, however I certainly do expect that folks will have some kind of meteorological reasoning behind their thoughts. Thats what this board is all about. Its about learning and having fun. Its about sharing insights and information. Sometimes though, its very serious business, especially when you might have people desparate for information. You have to be careful. Thats not said to discourage anyone, but thats how it is sometimes.

There is so much Storm 2K has to offer anyone interested in meteorology.....amateur, student, or pro. There is plenty of excitement for everyone, after all, winter will be here soon. I for one, can't wait. 8-)

What we do not allow is for someone to come in here, create a thread and say it is going to this certain area without offering their reasons why it might or could go. IMO, it causes panic because weather novices (like myself) read that stuff and believe it. We do discourage that and the Admins handle it.

Stephanie wrote:One of the main reasons why we don't like "-removed-" is when we are following a storm and there's a projected path established by NHC, we have at that time alot of people in a panic situation about whether to leave, where to go, etc. "-removed-" would include someone saying that the storm was going to hit in an area that is not in that forecasted cone, etc. thus creating alot of confusion.

We've had ALOT of new members that have signed up this season looking for good, logical and reliable information. Someone throwing a curve ball out there undermines the seriousness of the situation and could cause someone to think that they are in the clear and stop preparations. It could be a life or death situation and minutes count.
Couldn't have said it better myself Ladies

Thanks Johnathan! :D

I admit it. I am not a wishcaster, but I tend to be a "be-fore-caster". (of course, I dont post my opinions on it) People like me, who have NO working knowledge of meteorology, will go look at the different models and usually see something that looks suspicious, at least to an untrained eye. Knowing that there are MANY intelligent people on this board, one comes back here and asks a question, based on what one "THINKS" they have seen. This is not exactly -removed- but just people looking for a fore warning to be prepared. That is why I prefer to call it be-fore-casting.Most people don't actually "wish" any deadly storm to be heading their way. But if they can be prepared somewhat, they feel a heck of alot better. I would prefer to be punched and expect it, then to be sucker punched. BTW, all the people on here have been wonderful by keeping all of us NON Mets up to date on the real deal. Thank you :)
