I do not see why this is even being compared to Trent Lott. I do not feel Trent Lott said anything to warrant what happened to him by the liberal biased media. As far as the Dixie Chicks are concerned... they knowingly wanted to slam the President of the United States and I did not hear one comment of them supporting our troops.

JQ... it was very wrong, not to mention a distasteful display of obvious discontent with the President of the United States. I also believe that Michael Moore's career will probably be over and will be proven when he releases his next documentary. Madonna will be gone too once her anti war video hits the media outlets. And if I am not mistaken... Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have not been cast in a movie in quite some time.

I feel somewhat sure that the families of those dead soldiers
somehow don't appreciate her "joke."

I for one am "GLAD" to see their sales go down the tubes, ya think this taught Natalie a lesson? I seriously doubt it, anyone who has risen to fame in such a short time like the *Dixie Twits* tends to be, uhhh, how should I put this? *FULL OF THEMSELVES*, I have never really cared for the *Twits* that much and this really confirms my thoughts on them. As it's been said already, funny, when MONEY is at stake, they will SAY and DO anything to make it right, sorry Natalie, you should have *thought* about it before you opened your mouth, too bad, so sad!

I did have a problem with moore's comments. I didn't find the dixie chicks one sentence to be as powerful nor as significant. The chicks were not planning to say this like moore did. It was an offhand remark. They didn't say nething else until they were told to explain. Thats when they said they supported the troops. But they never said they didn't support the troops. Anyways...i should stop making a big deal about this b/c this ISN'T a big deal. They are just three americans out of thousands and should not be blacklisted b/c of their beliefs. People say things they regret. They regret it...so its done with.

JQ, sorry wxbuddy but this IS a BIG DEAL. Look at the *cult like* following these woman have, they INFLUENCE the younger generation more than you will ever know. Kids nowa days follow these groups around, join fan clubs and develope *cult like traits*

Country music DOES reflect the *heart beat* of America or should I say, "Most country music IS the heart beat of America!" Have you ever heard of *Patriotic Hard Rock*, *Patriotic Crap Music?* I don't think so. I rips my heart out to hear someone like Natalie to DIS this GREAT country, if she don't like it, ship her fat butt over to Iraq, she can go WORSHIP Saddam!

I have to agree with Azsnowman. Freedom of speech carries a responsibility as does being a public figure. The old rule..."engage brain before mouth" applies here!

JQ I still have to disagree with the blacklisting idea. The country stations are responding to their listeners. The former fans of the chicks are pissed off and they don't want to hear their songs! A radio station only makes money when people tune in. That's not blacklisting it's responding to the public! :D

The radio stations only make money when people tune in, and i personally think this was blown up by the stations...then the people reacted...then the stations realized whoa we're getting "people to tune in" we better keep doing this...look at all the publicity we're getting. So it goes on and on. Their following is just as cult-like as any other famous idol. I doubt smthg like this will stop the true fans, and sadly it will probably be forgotten just as quick as it was blown up.

I couldn't agree more with you azsnowman. The fact of the matter is, they could give a rats ass if they have influenced a youngster to have the same ideology as they do. They love themselves.

My whole family used to be fans of tye Dixie Chicks. "Used to be" is the operative word. Until there is what I feel is an honest apology for their actions it will remain that way in my house. JQ, if you will take the time to look at the Dixie Chicks Web Site and message board I think you'll find your assumption about their fans is incorrect. Not only are they upset, they are staying that way! There CD sales are also suffering tremendously. The American people are speaking in a very loud voice if you care to hear! :-)

We don't listen to them anymore and if they come on CMT or any other TV show - we change the channel. IMO they haven't apologized for anything they have done. I hope it hits them in the pocketbook - then they can be like us normal folks.

Isn't Madonna already "gone"? I liked her in the 80's but IMO, she should have quit a long time ago. Uh, grow up already!

Do people still like her?

I don't think it was blown up by the stations. Once the fans heard what they said, they were outraged. Then the fans called the stations. As mf said, the stations were responding to the fans.

And you might expect something like this from Susan Sarandon, but I don't see people knocking down her door for roles either. As a matter of fact, an entire event was cancelled after the guests complained because she was involved in it. She's done herself no favors either.

Charity group drops appearance by anti-war actress Susan Sarandon
Fri Mar 28, 2:47 AM ET

MIAMI (AFP) - A US charity organization scrapped an event that was set to include actress and anti-war activist Susan Sarandon, saying the event "began to divide our community."

The United Way of Tampa Bay, Florida had invited Sarandon, 56, to an event on women and volunteering scheduled for April 11. She has been vocal in her opposition to the US-led war in Iraq.

The invitations had already been sent out, and the United Way began to receive calls and emails complaining about the actress' role in it, The St. Petersburg Times reported.

"Through circumstances beyond our control, this event began to divide our community. The prudent course of action is to cancel the event," the charity group said in a statement.

"United Way of Tampa Bay has enormous respect for the diversity of ideas and the principles of free speech," it added. But "United Way of Tampa Bay's intent is to unify the diversity of thought that brings the community together."

At last week's Oscars ceremony, Sarandon reaffirmed her desire for peace in a quiet fashion.

Oh Ok, Now I know this has something to do with the troops.
Thanks, mf_dolphin for letting me know that the President is the
Commander in Chief for the troops. :)

Well... while the Dixie Chicks sales may be down up to 52%, they still hold the most sold album of the week just above Toby Keith. Also...they have recently gone 6x's Platinum. So...while it may have lowered sales, enough people are still buying them to keep them #1.
