This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

guess where ex-Jeanne and lisa are heading...!

#1 Postby KWT » Fri Oct 01, 2004 1:25 pm

yep suprise suprise the pair of them are heading to the land of the ex-hurricane/tropical storm!

looks like ex-Jeanne is about to pay a little visit to us in the U.K,in the form of some very heavy rain and also some fairly nasty gusts.however what's worse is that Lisa is being underdone by the models and will not degenrate into a cold front wave feature that fast and so will likely affect this system and deepening it much more than the models are giving on at present, here's the first advanced warning:

EARLY WARNING OF SEVERE WEATHER

EARLY WARNING OF HEAVY RAIN

ISSUED BY THE MET OFFICE AT 11:28 ON FRIDAY, 1 OCTOBER 2004.

OVERALL RISK ASSESSMENT: THE PROBABILITY OF DISRUPTION DUE TO
SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS IN PART OF THE UNITED KINGDOM WITHIN THE
NEXT 72 HOURS IS 60 PERCENT.

REGIONAL RISK ASSESSMENT FOR THE OCCURRENCE OF SEVERE WEATHER
CONDITIONS BETWEEN 06:00 ON SUNDAY 3 OCTOBER 2004 AND 12:00 ON
MONDAY 4 OCTOBER 2004.

NORTHERN SCOTLAND30[ PERCENT
EASTERN SCOTLAND30[ PERCENT
SOUTH WEST SCOTLAND 50[ PERCENT
NORTHERN IRELAND50[ PERCENT
NORTH WEST ENGLAND 40[ PERCENT
NORTH EAST ENGLAND 30[ PERCENT
THE MIDLANDS 40[ PERCENT
WALES 50[ PERCENT
SOUTH WEST ENGLAND 50[ PERCENT
CENTRAL SOUTHERN ENGLAND 40[ PERCENT
SOUTH EAST ENGLAND 30[ PERCENT
EAST ANGLIA AND LINCOLNSHIRE 30[ PERCENT

THIS IS THE FIRST WARNING OF DISRUPTION DUE TO HEAVY RAIN.

THE MET OFFICE IS FORECASTING A DEEPENING DEPRESSION RUNNING
NORTHEASTWARDS ACROSS THE COUNTRY DURING SUNDAY 3 OCTOBER BRINGING
VERY WET AND WINDY WEATHER.

RAINFALL TOTALS OF 25-50MM ARE EXPECTED IN THE HIGHER RISK AREAS
OVER A 30 HOUR PERIOD WITH 60-100MM POSSIBLE LOCALLY (IN EXPOSED OR
UPLAND LOCATIONS). IN ADDITION, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE
GALES TO DEVELOP ALONG THE SOUTHERN FLANK OF THE LOW WITH A 30[ RISK
OF DAMAGING 60-70MPH GUSTS. THIS MAY LEAD TO POSSIBLE DISRUPTION TO
TRANSPORT FOLLOWING DEBRIS FROM FALLEN TREES OR BROKEN BRANCHES.

THE DEVELOPMENT AND EXACT TRACK OF THE LOW IS UNCERTAIN AT PRESENT,
BUT ON BALANCE NORTHERN IRELAND, WESTERN AREAS OF BOTH ENGLAND AND
WALES AND SW SCOTLAND LOOK MOST PRONE TO PROLONGED, HEAVY RAIN,
WHILE WESTERN AND NORTHERN AREAS ARE MORE AT RISK OF ANY SEVERE
GALES.

I forgot to add...
Neither is my Mom.
She had to cancel/postpone her long-planned visit to Ireland that she was to leave today.
She has to get her damage cleaned up, and has no available spending money, until insurance settles.
Sorry about the rain.

As far as I can see ex-Jeanne is still stalled ESE of New Foundland. The rains forecasted for the UK are due to a normal autumn depression.
The remnants of Lisa will soon be picked up by a coldfront, thus forming a wave in that front. I expect that wave moving into France.

I got it. These storms are all striking Florida because they HATE golf. Then, they go on to Scotland for the same reason.

It just all makes sense.

Wow, Karl really made it far! Instead of taking out Disney World, he opted for Santa Claus!
