West Palm Beach, is it safe yet?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

West Palm Beach, is it safe yet?

#1 Postby NativeGirlShaun » Sat Oct 02, 2004 2:34 pm

HI gang....... wondering if it's safe to remove our shutters AGAIN? Anything out there twirling around that we should be watching? I haven't heard anything on the news so I thought I'd ask you guys here.

Thanks and have a good day!

Well... the season doesn't end until November 30th, but right now the tropics are quiet. Hopefully it'll stay that way.

NativeGirlShaun,

While direct hits at West Palm Beach are not common in October, there have been a number of storms that affected the area or were close calls in the past.

Such storms included:

Tropical Storm #7 (1859):

Hurricane #5 (1941):

Tropical Storm #4 (1974):

More common are hurricanes and tropical storms that hit the Gulf coast of Florida and move across to the east coast and then out over the Atlantic Ocean.

I would take some of them down not all of them. At the end of October I would take the remaining ones down.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it.

I guess we'll leave the high ones up and take down the low ones. I'll sure be glad when this season is over. I've lived here all my life and never have I seen anything like this season has been! Whew!

Yep. That would be 25.333 feet of rain. I suspect Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and a few other nearby states would be off the map as well.

I would take them down. It's a safety thing...plus the westerlies look pretty well established through the next 2 weeks and I doubt you will see anything for the rest of the season. If something does pop up then you can always put them back up.
