I've got a question

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Tue Oct 05, 2004 12:22 pm

I'm just curious..

Since it appears that it's now just a formality that I'll have a job at Wal Mart soon.. I wanna know something..

What's it like to be working during the X-Mas rush like I may be doing {especially if I get hired as a cashier}..

I have never had the priviledge to work during the Christmas rush.. I've always been the shopper not the worker lol..

Please fill my brain with insight :)

I worked at Kroger during my senior year in high school. OMG! Thanksgiving, Christmas, and pre-snowstorm days were CRAZY!

What's it like? Just remember to keep up the Christmas spirit, don't let the Scrooges get ya down, and GO HOME when your shift ends! Usually, that last one applied to the ER...all the time. But it goes for workers during the holiday shifts also. If you don't go home when you can, you'll lose out on your own precious time alone and with family...especially when you're trying to finish your own last-minute Christmas finalizations. :)

Now that one of our own is working at Walmart, I'll have to try and remember to be kind (at least tolerant) since I never know who might be working there!

I worked in a major shopping mall during holiday season once .... oooooh boy, you are gonna have your hands full! The good thing is, the days go by quickly - but like Duckie said, dont stick around a minute longer than you have to, or you might get drafted for overtime!

If people get short with you, remember that they are all stressed out, too - we all know how hectic the holidays can be. Personally I liked it - the mall I was in had live Christmas music all the time, and the Rockettes (is that what they are called? The NYC kick line girls...) paid us a visit .... all that Christmas spirit is infectious, even if it is just meant to convince people to shop, shop, SHOP!

I actually think I'm gonna like working the X-Mas rush.. I'm a real people person and working at Wal Mart will actually help improve my people skills since I'll be seeing people constantly

Based on what I have seen from the shopper's side, I wouldn't think you would want to work lay-away or customer service. That looked like it would be a challenge for sure.
