1:15 PM EDT Storm2k update on disturbance at BOC,Oct 7

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Oct 07, 2004 12:20 pm

The main feature in the atlantic basin today that has some potential for tropical cyclone formation is an area of disturbed weather located in the Southern Gulf of Mexico.A recon investigation will fly into the system after 3 pm EDT this afternoon and by then more data should come out to see what to expect from the system.Regardless of development or not plenty of rain will go to the Texas gulf coast and spread eastward thru Louisiana,Alabama,Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle. The potential is there for this area to develop into a tropical cyclone however shear will not be light when the system moves more northward and later to the northeast. The storm2k forecast team will watch what happens later this afternoon with the recon data and any changes will be posted.

Too much shear to the north.

There's an upper-level anti-cyclone over land south of the bay, and that may move a bit northward and then ENE. But the lower level stuff will be steered north, thus spoiling any chance of getting a vertically stacked system.

There'll probably be some significant waves and gale force gusts somewhere around the Louisiana area from this, but nothing serious IMHO.
