Yeah, especially when a typical afternoon thunderstorm has higher winds than this blob of convection.
I think the reason for a lot of the excitement is because this storm is going to dump lots of rain on folks who are still very vulnerable due to Hurricane Ivan. I don't think your typical afternoon thunderstorm lasts for 24-36 hrs and dumps 3-5 inches of rain. Under normal circumstances this would not be taken very seriously, but these are not normal circumstances for a lot of folks.

Well Matthew has already left his mark on Louisiana. We've had over 4" today on top of what fell yesterday and some rivers are starting to go into flood. If Matthew takes a more northerly path we could have a serious flooding situation. Already I'm seeing more convection form south of Louisiana heading up this way and the drying line near Lake Charles isn't budging...
