Is it true that the typhoons over there are generally stronger than our hurricanes?

Well yes, they generally do tend to reach higher intensities much more frequently than in the Atlantic. But they use 10minute wind-averages, so a 100kt typhoon over there would be roughly 14% stronger than a 100kt hurricane in the Atlantic.
