Thanks to the shear the gulf coast is not dealing with a much stronger system here as it is doing the job of blowing to the east the convection and leaving the center in the range of semiexposed to completly exposed. No matter in what form this system goes into the coast copius amounts of rain is the big threat provoking flash floods. Some gusty winds in the squalls will be there too.

I see a nekkid swirl!!!!!  If it weren't for the shear we would have a serious TC on our hands. We could have used the rain here in Houston, but we will have to wait for another day, another way.

Yea have to agree also with this much moisture and cloud present would of been worst.I was thinking earlier if all this convection was around the center JB's idea might of played out for Oct.Maybe not as serious but a hurricane neverless.

I have to fully disagree.

Had it not been for the shear, we would not have had the QG enhancement; thus, this thing would have been dead this morning. It has been the shear that has enabled this to slowly intensify as it nears the coastline

Yep...More evidence of an extratropical system....

At this point, it really doesn't matter what it's classified as, it's going to cause flooding problems along the gulf coast. It's been raining for 48 hours straight here and should continue until tomorrow. According to the forecast track, the "center" should most right over me, so I guess that's good news as the convection is to the east of the center. The center should give us a break from the monsoon like rains we've been getting. The bayous finally went down a little but are expected to come back up for a while tonight. MS/AL should be getting the rains now too. Winds shouldn't really be a problem, just like a breezy with occasional gust. It's been that way here all day today and the storm is still well south in the GOM. So call it Matthew, call it extratropical, call it Jo Schmoe from Cocomoe, just push it on out so we can finally get into fall.
