Severe wx in SELA, MS, AL

#1 Postby PTPatrick » Sat Oct 09, 2004 2:52 pm

Are we going to be looking at severe storms popping throughout the area east of Matthew? Looks like classic for tropical storm type tornados out there, esp with this thing being so enhances by the mid latitude influence...just curious if anybody has looked at this possibility.

Expect a Tornado Watch to go up later tonight!

While there's always a possibility of severe wx and possible tornadoes in association with landfalling tropical cyclones, I don't see this system as particularly imposing.

SPC hasn't even got the LA/MS/AL area under a slight risk in the current SWODY's (although I expect that to change tonight).....but I won't be surprised to see tornado watches over areas east of the storm track, especially within 100 miles of the Gulf coast.

IMO the tornado threat will dimish once the storm is inland....it's fairly weak to begin with, and will encounter more stable atmospheric conditions currently over northern portions of the southeast U.S. (from Georgia to northern Mississippi).

The rain continues in SE LA and points east. Gulf Shores, Gulf Breeze, and Pensacola are also, unfortunately, getting quite wet this morning.

There have already been a few dopplar radar indicated tornado warnings this morning in some of the parishes of SE LA.
