They could always just add a section under a members name saying this....

And not count those into the main post count that is reflected around the site.

Well I hate to disagree, but you're wrong Tom. The database stores all of the posts but it's the php code that counts and stores the user post count in their database record. What the modification does is not include the specified forum when it updates the user's post count after every new post.

That doesn't make me wrong, Marshall. I am talking about how the database was adding up posts in for each individual member... the posts we made in the Fun & Games forum were included with those we made in all the other forums.

What he is saying Tom is that thier is a modafaction on the board now that allows the admins to make it so whenever someone post in that forum (Or whatever one they choose)it will not add to thier post count UNLIKE before. Yeah the database will have it but it will not show in your posting numbers.
Hope this helps some.

I think that the new version of phpBB is going to have a ton of new features and settings that should allow for greater control of the board.
I've seen a bit of the dev board for 2.2; and it looks really good. It allows attachments, it shows server load and script execution time on the board itself (rather than in the admin CP or server CP - which IMO is a good thing for S2K because it would allow you guys to keep an eye on those numbers easier for when we do get busy), among many other things.

I'll second this idea. Volcanoes, earthquakes, and space weather is a little tough to fit into the current forums.
I think a seismic forum could work very well. There's been a lot of talk about earthquakes lately, plus there are a handful of active volcanoes around the world that data and imagery could be posted.
As for a space weather forum, I don't know how active that could be, so maybe a renaming of the global forum to a 'global and space weather' forum would work.

I have to agree with senorpepr. The general off topic forum is rather broad IMO and as it stands right now could cover just about anything except sports, the community forum stuff, and politics. That leaves open a lot of possibilities. But then again I can see why you guys don't want to clutter the main page either.

One turn off, for many members, for some reason is having too many forums. I don't care one way or the other; although I do lean with having a variety of forums only for the fact that we can navigate through the site categorically.
We access the forums that interest us the most. I even visit those I am not too interested in, there may be something to add.
Signatures do serve a point. We have things to say and links that may be worthwhile. The length of them can be a problem.
