They are #1 for Country Album with Toby Kieth #2. A 52% drop in sales is a pretty big number :-)

Which is what I was meaning.

Here is the link if you don't want to take my word for it: http://www.billboard.com/bb/charts/country.jsp

52% is a big drop, but apparently losing 52% of their sales isn't enough to drop them out of #1. Also...since charting artists is my other hobby, I can also tell you that the album has been out for 31 weeks...so a decrease in album sales is to be expected. I AM SURE that what Natalie said impacted the size of the decrease, but how much is not known. The fact that they are still #1 after 31 weeks is actually amazing. I thought they might tank after her comments, but apparently someone is buying her albums. It might be Al Gore all by himself ;), but $15.00 is $15.00.

As a side note, while I may not agree with you I would never ON PURPOSE distort figures to make my side look better. I hope no one felt that way.

It does seem that they are still number one THIS WEEK. Perhaps the decrease in sales will not show up until next week. We will just have to wait and see.

I bought the new Toby Keith CD today, not the Dixie Chicks.

Don't You Remember...............

Jane Fonda riding the Chinese tank holding a gun in her hand! Hey the deal is, that DIxie chick knew exactly what she was doing, feeding into the anti-war sentiment that the Brits were expressing. She USED that to her favor, which is completely anti-american in this case. She would not have said what she did had she known the reaction would be negative. It's two-faced, and I don't have any respect for that. If she was speaking her own opinion, I might have thought diffferently about it.

I'm just curious because you seem to defend them a lot....What they said didn't offend you as an American? (just asking because I liked them a lot but this has really ticked me off)

Southerngale...

I do not agree with what Natalie said, but I don't think that I should burn their cd's or switch the channel every time they come on. Why? Because our nation was founded on the principle of freedom of speech. They have the right to say what they want and you have the right to say what you want too. If we react this way every time someone says something that we don't agree with... we might not even be America. If we got mad every time someone said things we didn't agree with and react in an irrational manner we probably would not have fought the Revolutionary War.

I am in NO WAY saying what Natalie says has as much importance as our founding fathers, BUT it is the principle I care about.

I see this so much in our society and it hurts me to know that just because someone vocalized the way they feel, we ostracize them.

Burning the Chick's cds, not playing them on the radio, banning them from arenas may break them, but it won't change an belief IF that truly is yours. And if you cause that to happen to someone because you don't feel the same way -- what kind of message are you sending?

There are certain situations where you can cross the line. But from all of the things I have read, nowehere did Natalie say Rumsfeld was an idiot or that war is dumb or that the troops are incapable. She said she is ashamed Bush is from Texas. How many people were ashamed that Clinton was from Arkansas? Gore was from Tennessee? A lot and they are free to say it.

The Dixie Chicks are musicians and I buy their cd's for music. If they come out with a book or a cd publicizing their political views I promise you I won't buy it. ;) Until then I like their music...and so I will buy it. The same is true with Charlie Daniels. I don't always agree with him, but when I hear "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" I crank it up and sing along. ;)
Sorry this was long, but I wanted to express my opinion. While you may not agree, hopefully you understand where I am coming from.

J...you missed my point. My point is that you have the freedom to say that you aren't proud of their job! But should I then trash your car or threaten your life because of it? I don't think that would be smart.

Lots of people have said they are ashamed of previous presidents. I may not say the same thing but i won't hate them for an opinion. The difference is made at the polls...we'll see if other people agree in 2004.
