Florida's first cold front on it's way

#1 Postby tronbunny » Tue Oct 12, 2004 3:49 pm

Forecasters say the by friday, central Florida will experience nighttime temps into the 50's!
My blood is so thin, that daytime 70's sends me digging for the sweaters!

Heard a met say last night that Friday morning we'll be in the upper 40's with a wind chill in the mid to upper 30's. I'm not ready for this - too early.

tronbunny - I'm a freeze cat too, like you. But I live up north, in Ohio! You didn't ask but I feel compelled to tell you what gets me thru winters year after year. And no it's not having my thermostat set on 80!!! LOL I buy several pairs of lightweight thermal pants and tops from Target. I swear by them!!! Imagine wearing a thin layer under your jeans, like a turtleneck under a sweater? It's the same thing. Not bulky at all. Now I'm not sure these items would be for sale in your state but you could search. They're located in the sleepwear section. Pants are about $10 each and tops similarly priced (I have about 3 pairs of pants and one top). Sometimes you can find them on sale. I buy several, rotating them and I wear them everyday for about 2 or 3 months. And if I have to dress quickly in the morning, skipping them, I feel cold all day long!

Just a FYI moment from me to you!

Mary

PS - can't find anything at Target.com, but this is the type product I'm talking about at LL Bean:
http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... =ssdpa1046

Now that you've seen it, look around at other less expensive stores near you if this is something you'd like to buy. If I didn't know Target carries these each Fall, I'd be tempted to buy one pair from Bean and wash them a lot. Years ago a friend of ours who's a major freeze cat, a vegetarian, transplant from Florida, size 5, said she wore silk thermals all winter long under her clothes. Otherwise she'd be shivering all the time she said!

tronbunny - didn't think your Target would carry them. Probably an item that sells better up north. Once I got them on sale for $3.50! Wished I had bought two pairs that day. Dang. I still say $10 or $11, what I usually pay is a steal. They keep me warm all winter. And I should add that we keep our thermostat set on 65 all winter. We never up it, it just stays at 65 from November to March. We did this when gas prices tripled 4 winters ago. And just got used to it. I should add that we have windows that face south, so it's not bad as you think. We all sleep better too since it's cooler. I know you're probably shaking your head.

I'll keep searching Target's website for you. Maybe I'll find them. Their search engine was down last night. I wouldn't pay the LL Bean price either but I wanted to show what I was talking about. I even went to JC Penney's site and their prices were comparable to Bean! Crazy - we're talking Penney's!!! Thought they'd be cheaper...

Just checked, didn't come up at Target. I will say when they sell them, it's only for a month or two. They're displayed on small hangers, similar to plastic ones socks come on. They're hanging up on a rack in the women's pj section out near an aisle way: pants, tops, tanks and I want to say the brand is Cherokee. I'll have to go check for you, mine are packed away. My teen daughters wear them when they go sledding and skiing - they're always borrowing them, b/c they hate bulky thermals like they used to wear when little. Maybe your Target carried them and you just didn't notice them? I didn't the first few years until I was walking past them one Fall and thought huh, that's something I should buy! Glad I did.

Noon.. 77 degrees and heavy dark clouds with some rain moved in.
2:30pm clouds slowly moving out, breezy (10-15) 72 degrees.
8pm 66 degrees, clear, still breezy.
9:30pm 58 degrees! clear, not breezy.

alright Miss Mary, I could use those longies, soon
:-)
And I'm just learning to ride my motorcycle, this is not fun when it's this chilly.

The AC hasn't kicked on since about 7:30. I didn't have the windows open, and probably should have, earlier. I won't have them open tonight, 'cause I don't want to "freeze"
I know, this really is the best time, but I don't have my winter clothes out yet!
:-)

Well, it's over...

Back into the mid-80's this week. Got to open the windows for one day. That was like a beer sampler -- now bring me a pint!
