Is not easy to go through a hurricane, and see all the devastation. Everything that you work for years is destroyed and you have to start again. God bless those people that are still going through this problem.

and yet many people arent going to move, which will only set them up for a potential future disaster again, which is more rebuilding.

A local banker disclosed to me last week that a FEMA official had advised him 30% of the foundations of all structures on the barrier islands had been condemned and structures could not be rebuilt upon those foundations.

although i think that FEMA may be a bit overwhelmed this year, i have only good things to say with my experience with the agency. they were prompt and forthcoming. i think that they have a rather thankless job. my experience was with georges in 98 and irene in 99 on lower sugarloaf key. i do understand the fatigue and frustration of the post-storm period. all that i have to offer is the confidence that it will end...and your lives will get back to normal...the memories do fade, albeit, slowly

I'm one lady who will move! I don't live right on the coast or a mandatory evacuation zone, but I've got easily over $30,000 damage to my home thanks to an Ivan-spawned tornado. Everything is so different now that this place no longer feels like home anymore.

I live near the airport and we had to move out for a few weeks. There were so many leaks that it was causing the bedroom, garage, dining room and living room to cave in. Thankfully, we are a member of the blue roof society because we had a downpour last night..it didn't last long though.

My 10 year-old son burst out crying Friday night over the hurricane. He had been nervous when we evacuated, but I never expected to see such an emotional reaction from him. He talked about missing his favorite trees, living on the concrete floor, and some of the toys he's now missing. I think it was good for him to talk about it because he seemed to feel better after that. I guess we are all going through some type of post traumatic stress disorder to some degree.

So much destruction.
Would it help if the builders maybe rounded off the structures instead of having angles? I mean like a bull nose type on the roofs and edges...I don't know. What I do know is that we have and will learn alot from this storm...especially how to treat one another.
The word 'humble' and the 'Do unto others' scripture has taken on a whole new meaning.
May God be with us all.
