Religion vs Evolution
Some people take the Bible literally and think the first humans were just 8,000 years ago as they timeline the Bible. Scientists think that homo sapiens were first 200,000 years ago and home erectus 1.6 milllion years ago. So do the literalists think 'Adam and Eve' looked like cave men or modern man?

I posted in the other thread that science usually prevails in this type of question. I accept both what science teaches and what the Bible teaches as they impact my life and actions. The question of Lucy's human-ness does not affect whether I can pay my bills, or how I relate to my family, so I am not going to get worked up over it. Besides, I wasn't there to see it. But it is interesting and valuable to get a sense of our place in the universe - both spiritual and temporal, so I look to both sources to get my bearings. When I am faced with a situation here and now, the Bible gives me more to go on. If anything, the wonders that science reveals deepens my sense of awe and reverence for this whole creation. I am not dwelling on how it came about. It just is. That kind of reminds of of the statement "I am that I am."

There are some ribosomal or mitochondrial DNA studies (I cannot remember which) that chart the mutation rates within the human genome. these studies tend to provide evidence of both an evolutionary timeline AND the origin of the species beginning with a very small group of women perhaps even one woman. These studies are far from concrete facts but they do tend to lend scientific creedence to at least a one family origin.
