"The Biggest Loser"

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Wed Oct 20, 2004 8:42 am

Hey, it was NBC. I HAD to watch.

Who else watched? What'd ya think?

Gotta admit, I was pretty shocked by some of those losses. The 15 lb. loss surprised me at first. But then one guy lost 22 POUNDS in one week! Hello??

Even though the red team lost the physical challenge, they kicked butt in the weight loss challenge. I guess Jillian's Eat Less plan is gonna prove Ryan's Eat More plan wrong (which I would have guessed anyway). Of course, it probably helps to do FIVE hours of workout a day also!! Wonder if they'll be able to maintain their losses a year after the show is over. I mean, when people go back to work and their regular routines, they don't always have five hours everyday to work out. Celebs on the other hand....

I watched it. I need to be a big loser.

Basically, I like the show and see it as motivational to maybe millions as it progresses and viewers see others who are "just like me" succeeding. However, it does bother me when they show 22 pound wieght losses and don't tell the viewers that most of that was retained fluids from improper eating and metablolisms that are asleep. That much weight loss in one week is normally dangerous and any good trainer or nutritional counselor will tell you that. Past that the other problem I have with it is, as you said Duckie, normal people do not have 5 hours a day available to work out. Hopefully, at a minimum the show will serve as an inspiration to the millions of us who need to lose weight and give us hope and some tips on how to do it. The winner of this particular competition should be the one who is there because they are doing it for themselves first and others second. Otherwise, I don't see them succeeding.

I watched bits and pieces of it, and I wasnt a big fan.

First of all, I hated the elimination process. I know, I know, its reality TV and its not SUPPOSED to be fair, but I see all these people who clearly need and want to change their lives .... I just hate seeing them get tossed when they are all clearly making a real effort.

Personally, I think they should only toss the cheaters.

Some of the little things seemed to be there just for the sake of humiliation, too .... making them squeeze in and out of that car window ....I mean, c'mon, is that REALLY necessary?

I like the concept of the show, but like you, those things bothered me too. I think this is the first time we've agreed on something, lol.

So, did anyone watch the whole season up to this point? Anyone excited to see the LIVE finale tonight, where we get to see Ryan, Kelly, and Gary again? They've been home for the past few months and attempting to put what they learned from their trainers into practice in the real world.

I was sad to see Mo go, but I'm sure he's still doing well. It will be phenomenal to see how much weight everyone lost up to this point.

Here's Mo, for those who wondered:

Before..................................................After

An hour and a half!

I wonder how they'll determine the winner this time. I mean, for the first several weeks, the players voted someone off. Then closer to the end, they ranked them by percentage of weight lost (not by who lost the most pounds). This time, I wonder if they'll still go by who lost the most percent-wise or weight-wise or maybe they'll do a whole composite of pounds, inches, and percentage.

It'll be interesting!

Who are you for, Chad? I'm kinda for Kelly, but Gary also. He came off as a jerk in the beginning, but I really liked when he turned around after running the track and ran back to Mo to run with him and inspire him to finish. That took heart.

I'll be watching!! it has been amazing to watch them over their season of loss. And I guess it has been somewhat inspirational too. Mo was not my favorite because I think he was a slacker. JMHO. However they all should be very proud of what they have done.

I look at it as being good in that it is motivation or inspiration for others, but it is definitely not real life when you go to the ranch for 3 months(or was it 4)of nothing but working out. If they have all carried what they were taught by the trainers and continued to use it, which it appears those who were voted off have then it becomes a good thing, especially if they all have continued to lose since they were sent home.

I know!!! My wife and I just freaked when we saw that!!! He deserved to win!!!

I'm wondering how Kelley and Gary feel about one of the 9 voted off going home with 100k and they go home with nothing monetarily.

They should still be happy. They did great! From the start, I thought Kelly was a bit of a looker (I knew she'd look even better with the weight off). But I think the "percentage of fat lost" thing is what hurt her. I mean, women automatically have a higher percentage of fat than men since part of it makes up our chests, so Kelly was at a bit of a disadvantage there. However, you could tell Kelly really needed to get some more serious weight training for her upper body. Her arms were still a bit flabby, although she looks broad shouldered and strong in her upper body already. I think if she'd done some upper body weight training (which I never saw her do on the show), along with her cardio workouts, she would have gained muscle up there and lost some of the flab in her arms. I think she focused too much on her gut and butt. Ryan and Gary had serious definition in their arms. Two things I always like to see -- tone arms and abs.

Ryan looked incredible when he busted through the wall. And so happy! In my opinion, this was one reality show that was worth watching.

Ok, are you and my wife related? That is almost word for word what she stated(not as detailed of an analysis). Definitley plan on watching it next season. I wish we could figure out how to take off the time to be on the show as a couple(not that she needs to lose anything near what I do)which they mentioned last night. It has definitely been good for us to watch it.

*snicker* No, I don't think we're related. That would make you and me in-laws, right.

"Biggest Loser" for couples would be cool. :)
