Hurricane Cost Update...
I saw on FOX NEWS, I have doubled all of them, as the NHC does:
Charley is 14.8 billion
Frances is 8-9 billion
Ivan is 6-8 billion
Jeanne is 8 billion...without being doubled
Saw it all on FOX NEWS. Now, I did not double Jeanne, because that would be 16 billion....I even got close and put on my glasses to make sure I was not reading 3 or 6 billion...nope...it said 8 not adjusted.

Charley 18 to 20 billion...If less something is wrong...
Ivan 4 to 5 billion...
Frances 2 to 3 billion...
Jeanne 5 to 6 billion...
29 to 34 billion total for 2004...
Charley was offically 14.8 billion, although I would think closer to 20 billion.
I have heard that Frances was 10 billion, or about 5 billion un-adjusted.
Ivan was a close second with about 8 billion adjusted.
Jeanne is 8 billion un-adjusted which would mean, Jeanne was more costly than Hurricane Charley.

Scorpion
Scorpion, on a damage scale, Charley and Ivan were worst. Jeanne costed more money because it hit alot more populated area then Ivan. Pensacola was the only big city with major impacts, Mobile also but they didnt get hit nearly as hard as areas east of there. Also Jeanne hit an area that already had dealt with a hurricane, leaving some structures more prone to winds. At least thats my thinking. I wouldnt be at all surprised if Jeanne is the 2 costliest (behind Charley) storm this season. Ivan most likely will be third.

Trust me, and Senor pepr will likely agree, if a hurricane of over 100 mph hits a place where people live, likely people (WHO DO NOT PREPARE) will sustain damage that will top atleast a billion dollars. Do ou have any idea how many more Charley's and Jeanne's we may have in the next 3 years?

I would say that's a fair statement within the US. The best hope is that construction codes will improve and, in the long run, damages from strong hurricanes go down thanks to better prepared people along the coasts.

Mike,
I wouldn't doubt, from statements made by Derek and company in regards to "worst case scenario", that the Orlando Metro area damage could be a big chunk of those figures for Charley and Jeanne.
There's a significant amount of high dollar property damage in this spread-out, but heavily developed, area of Central Florida.
