Do you have animals in your house or not?

Oh Stormsfury - so sorry to hear of Wicket's passing away. So sad. Feel for you.
We have one pet, Hope, a Golden Retriever. She's 3 now and still quite hyper. But very, very sweet and loving. In fact we all joke if she could purr, she would. She thinks she's a lap dog. I sit on the floor, legs spread out as if exercising and she climbs in the middle. She thinks this is a person's lap - so funny. Just hope I can sit like this for years to come.....it all goes back to sitting up with her whimpering for 4 nights in a row when she was a puppy. She'd climb into my lap and curl up into a ball, then fall asleep. My lap of all is I guess very comforting to her. But she loves all of us. Goldens are great. She was my first pet in over 20 years though. It was a shock at first but I truly can't imagine life without her now.
Again SF - can't stop thinking of you and your family. Hugs go out to you tonight! And your other dog....how is she/he handling the loss? That must be upsetting also to the other pet left behind.
Quick edit - Wow Linda, I will never complain how much work it is with my dog! You remind of a girl in Laura's class. She and her family have something like 38 pets. In a 4 story, 4BR house. Regular size yard too - under 1/3 acre. Dogs, cats, fish, gerbils, hamsters, etc. And a horse too - but it's stabled elsewhere. You'd get along great with this family Linda!

Right now, I think my father/stepmother and myself are taking this harder than Winston. However, I think Winston either realizes or will soon realize that Wicket is now gone, as he ... come to think of it, didn't leave the nice cozy large shed most all day today...(but originally thought this because of the cold, rainy weather)...

That is ashame Stormsfury! How old was Wicket? I was wondering the samething too about Winston. Perhaps, if he's young enough, he may in time appreciate another playmate. It is good to know that Wicket didn't suffer.
Contruction - That is a great thing you do! Three of my four cats were strays. I also have a Boston Terrier named Rudy. I also feed feral cats that live in a shed down by where I work. There are a ton of them down around Atlantic City. If I could, I too would bring every animal I find in as well. They all deserve the unconditional love and support that they provide us. Don't ever let me catch a SOB abusing an animal. I remember when Marty and I bought our first house together the night we moved in I saw a kid chase after a dog, grab him and threw him into a street sign. I screamed at him that you never treat an animal that way, and if he couldn't treat it right, I would take him. Meanwhile, Marty is trying to calm me down. The kid said that the dog is only a "coon dog" (whatever the hell that was supposed to be) and he always ran away. I then asked him if he ever wondered why the dog did that. No comment of course!

Thanks Stephanie
What gets me is people that get a large breed, or any size dog for that matter, and chain them to a tree. What's the point in that?

SF, I am so very sorry to hear about your dog. It was very tragic for me when my dog died, I still havent had the heart to get another one yet. She is irriplaceable to me.
Construction. You get a big thumbs up from me. Anyone who does what you do deserves a medal. I too get so mad when people abuse animals!
Lindaloo, I would love so much to have that many animals. I have always wanted to own my own horse and I would love nothing more than a pot belly pig.
Breeze your dog sounds like my cat. He is also pitch black with the tip of his tail white and a few flecks of white on his chest, I can see him in the dark it is sooo funny, I can see this little white spot coming toward me.

Forgot to add I'm a major cat lover. I got my love for cats from an Aunt who lived on a farm. She gave us a kitten once and the rest was history. However, we had rotten luck for a while there. We moved a few times and one ran away. Another caught a rare blood infection after a nick from grooming and died. Leaving a litter of kittens behind to feed. My last cat and most precious to me was a deep orange persian. He was my very best friend. I like to think my Golden is my cat, reincarnated. Now you all know I'm odd - they both have the same eye/hair color and follow me all over the house. In fact I've looked deep into Hope's eyes and asked - are you Duffy (my cat's name) by any chance?
Wherever I've lived cats find me. My oldest daughter is highly allergic to cats though so we can't own one. Shame too since she loves them also. We've had to take several very sick cats to the SPCA b/c they were dumped and no one was tending to them. Several had feline aids. The last cat that appeared in our neighborhood was a very gentle cat. The most gentle I've ever met. In the beginning 4 neighbors were feeding this cat and worrying about him. I was recovering from major surgery and he'd come over for a visit. Curl up in my lap and purr away. It was the best therapy at the time. Neighbors kept saying - keep him, it's meant to be. Well, my allergic daughter would swell up so much and need to be on Benadryl we knew we couldn't keep him. I tried so many no kill agencies but no one would take him. My brother had just lost a cat (car accident) and was too distraught to take him. So off to the SPCA we went. I sobbed there and back. I was in terrible physical pain, stitches, etc. We gave him a glowing report.....they couldn't type fast enough to enter all the info we gave. Then my brother had a change of heart. Next day he went down to get this sweet cat but he had been already adopted. Oh how I've regretted taking him in. But I was stuck - this cat had no home and needed one. And my daughter couldn't live on Benadryl. We still talk about this cat and even called him Shadow. I'll never do that again, unless the cat is very ill. I will search and search for the perfect home......still feel bad. Now I've poured my heart out. Sorry for the lengthy reply.
Sunny - I can relate. Our GR was a major handful in the beginning. We were at one time giving her 5 walks a day just to calm her down. Vet kept saying - exercise, exercise, exercise. She was her most roudiest in the morning. You couldn't even get a cup of coffee but she was at your side wanting attention. Forget reading the paper then.....but now she's calmed down and we love her to pieces.

Thanks Amanzi. We have done it now for 3 years, and have only had 9 dogs that were physically abused (that we know of), most are strays. And luckily only a few batches of barkers.

we have a Scottie (like Bush's but much much bigger), and a Siamese named Sinsei, or Stinky...answers to both. The cat was bought off some Redneck that was charging $175. We almost didn't go into the house when we first pulled up, but had driven a ways so in we went. The poor cat was near dead, obviously through neglect. She had 2, and I wanted so bad to get both but couldn't afford it. I told her I wouldn't pay more than 100, and she took it. We saved that cat's life and I don't think he's ever forgotten it. He bites my feet every night as I try my best to find a new way to get into bed without him getting me. A true sign of affection...I think he learned it from my wife!
