Kurt Schilling was a favorite here when he was with the D-Backs. Actually went to high school here too.
After his terrific pitching during the second time around in the series, he made a comment thanking God for giving him the strength.
There has since been a lot of controversy about those remarks. Talk shows have been going crazy here. They say, is it trivializing God to think that by praying you can affect the outcome of your performance or a game? And if God can and does help, did the Yankees not pray hard enough?
I look at it this way. Schilling was Thanking God for the peace and inner strength he has found since becoming a Christian 7 years ago. And that inner peace and strength helped him put the game in the right perspective and do the best he could.
He wasn't thanking God for winning...he was thanking God for being in his life and giving him the right perspective on his role on the team, and his role in the world.
Does God pick sides in sports? Or does he offer inner strength to those who seek him out and let him in?
What's your take?

I think he offers inner strength to ALL who seek him. I don't like the Yankees, but if one of them happened to see me in heaven, I'd have no problem treating him like I would any other Christian.
