70,000 "extra posts" in the Storm2k Games Forum

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Wed Oct 27, 2004 5:14 pm

I've mean to bring this up right after it happened, didn't think it was too much of a big deal, but increasing is more of an interesting item to know the true reason for.

Thanks.

There should be 235 posts in the Fun & Games forum, not 70,235.

I haven't been including the "70,000" in the stats since it suddently appeared. At this moment the board has 629,887 posts, not 699,887.

Sure, I remember when the games forum was pulled... but the total jumped 70,000 weeks later, not too too many weeks ago.

I also find it odd how it's such an even number.

It was more then a week.. It was weeks later.. And we didnt reinstate the exact number.. We got as close as we could from what we rememberd.. Either use the new number or the old number Tom.. Its up to you.. Im not sure what you want me to do

Right, that's what I'm saying.

There were around 200 posts there for awhile, then there were 7,200.

I rather use the lower total, but that won't correspond with the total number at the bottom of the forum index page. It will take quite awhile to update all the stats and for that matter figure out the exact date (in the last couple months) the 7,000 posts were 'added'.

I suppose you have to do what you want.

If we were to add the 70,000 posts, we would be at 700,000 by tonight. Adding the posts would cause a large shift in how long it would take us to reach the plauteaus that Tom has posted about every night.

I know that Chad, I was stating that if Tom adds it to his count... then we would have a large shift in when we reach plauteaus such as 750,000 and so on up the ladder.

That's the problem... I rather not have to correct all the weeks worth of data. It's bad enough I've already gone through some more unnecessary time consuming corrections.

Sure, you did... but that doesn't make it 'right' for those viewing all the past data.

Also, if you add up the number of posts in each thread (plus 1 for the initial post) it adds up to 235, opposed to 70,235.

One could just make a post stating that there now 70,000 added posts... and go from there. Couldn't that happen?

Look we accidently removed the 70,000 posts.. So then we added them back.. They are there now, and they are staying there....

Okay. They were removed and don't literally exist in the forum.

There are a lot of posts that were made that no longer exist in many of the forums. When the board "prunes" a forum" tose posts still show in the stats even though they've been removed from the board.
