Yawn-only 2-3 inches per hour. I've been on Donner when it was falling at a rate of over 6 inches/hour-plus 80-100 mph wind gusts.

It was falling at rates of over 8 inches/hour in Oswego county this past winter. Made it impossible to see or drive.

First time, I was sitting in a bus in Truckee as the driver put the chains on and then later as we were going in convoy over the Pass-I-80 was closed right after we went over and CALTRANS reported the 100 mph gusts and 6-8 iph snowfall. The second time I was driving over the Pass and again in convoy-this time only 80mph gusts-I could see the car just ahead of me-barely, and watched as he locked all four and slid into the snow wall. Traffic was moving at all of 20 mph. As we formed up the convoy at the gate where we chained up, I noted that the driver ahead was a flatlander from FL (FL drivers drive in the mountains about as well as they vote-even in good weather) so I wasn't surprised when he fouled up. They closed the road right behind us because they couldn't keep the road clear. That trip over Donner culminated one of the worst trips I ever have taken weather wise. From a blizzard in UT where it took us 6 hours to drive the 100 miles from Dugway to Wendover to an unbelievable Silver Thaw (Ice Storm) in Reno to that blizzard over Donner and it wasn't much better on the way back.

No it was not. The only good thing was that we were going over Donner in daylight and since it was a warm storm, we only had to contend with the snow along the higher stretch of road so we were only delayed about three hours at our destination in Auburn CA.
