I'm a hunter and pecker. I cheated in keyboarding throughout the whole class :o , so I never learned how to type "the right way" ... it helped me get a 101% though, which earned me a free dinner at Chili's (a burger place). :D

Rewarded for cheating in class? Hehe  Sure wish I had a teacher like that during my school years! :D

I see this has turned out to be an interesting subject to most of you. Thank you very much. 8)

Mary, I am glad that you appreciate me using home row. :D

I learned how to type my freshman year in high school [the 1992-1993 school year], my teacher's son died of liver cancer during the course of the year (pretty early in the season), so we had a substitute from the business department take his place, she was alright, being able to teach the class, but something was missing and I don't believe she was truly a typing teacher at the high school.

I had an idea on how to type before I turned 15, but of course improved from taking Typing in high school.

I never learned typing the "official way" (i.e. in a class), but instead started out with hunt and peg and kept adding fingers until I now, when I can type very quickly. It still doesn't match what my ex-math teacher can do (who is also a programmer). It's just amazing how fast his fingers can move - almost eerie.

As for capitalization and all that jazz, I'm your guy. And it's not like I have to put in any extra effort. For me, a capital A takes the same effort as a lower case A (shift+A is one operation in my mind). I've also gotten more efficient since in Microsoft Word I have hotkeys set up for letters with diacritics, which often requires three or four keys to be pressed in order, such as ctrl+:+a for ä and ctrl+alt+~+a for ã (a with tilde if you can't see it too well). I do a lot of stuff with language (including my own constructed language) which require all these symbols and a well structured system for hotkeys.

Hello WidreMann! :D Very nice to see you here at Storm2K. I am glad you stopped by and hope you are here more frequently. I am sorry, I haven't been to your messageboard. There is so much activity here that it takes a lot of time reading, scanning, responding and creating topics here along with the other things I and I am sure most of our friends here do online.

I agree wholeheartedly, it takes the same amount of effort to use the proverbial shift key. I don't think it take even a half second to press it down and press the first letter in your sentence. :)

I can type very fast, perhaps you can notice in the short time it takes me to post here.
