NBC should be ashamed of themselves..

#1 Postby JetMaxx » Thu Apr 10, 2003 8:59 pm

NBC, the same network that made a mockery of hurricane Andrew with a made for tv movie starring Ted Wass as Bryan Norcross and Bryan Norcross as some unnamed guy with one line in the entire movie  may be in the process of stooping even lower...

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=s ... lynch_dc_3

Good grief!...at least let the girl recover from her injuries. This is just the kind of botched up garbage I was afraid of. They rush in, without any regard for Jessica, her family, or the TRUTH and decide to make a tv movie--with or WITHOUT her family's permission. I feel so sorry for her and her family (AND the families of the other members of the 507th maintainance that were ambushed); and it makes me very angry :grrr: :grrr:

What NBC will in fact create, is a movie showing what they THINK happened. We'll see a horrid ambush, bodies lying dead....sorry, I'm so ticked I can't even describe how sick it will likely be. I'm sure we'll see "Jessica" dragged off into the desert, lying battered in a Iraqi hospital bed with an Iraqi attorney peeping in the window as she's slapped in the face by a large Fedeyeen soldier   (my Lord, it was painful enough just to read about  )

Scheduled to air on NBC this fall...likely during the November "sweeps" period--less than eight months after Jessica's ordeal and her brave comrades deaths. I've seen cobras with more compassion..

First CBS wanted to make a "Reality" version of the Beverly Hillbillies....making real citizens of Appalachia look like a sideshow.
I'm certain a great deal of the lustre has been taken off that proposed mockery since the Jessica Lynch rescue; because she and her family have shown America the true bravery, grace, dignity, and class of most REAL people living in West Virginia and Appalachia.

At first I felt like Jessica Lynch was a member of my family...then her parents and siblings; well now I feel a kinship to all the proud citizens of the Mountaineer State.
I'm very humbled by the emails I've recieved....the graciousness and appreciation; and the kindness shown to me by dozens of proud West Virginians. I will never forget it :)

As for the NBC farce....shame on you. Your arrogance and lack of respect for the Lynch family will not be forgotten by this Georgia gentleman. I won't boycott NBC...because in all honesty, I don't watch them much to begin with. I can promise them I won't watch this disrespectful charade, and I hope decent Americans will follow my lead. Pfc Lynch and her brave friends and comrades deserve far more respect than this (several of whom are still listed as POW or MIA

That's just disgusting! :grr: :grr: :grr:

LET HER RECOOPERATE PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY!

I can't understand why the shark frenzy would put more of a national spotlight on Jessica. Irreguardless of her family's permission, the shark feeding frenzy is acting upon instinct to deliver the most news in the shortest amount of time. They want the meat of the story; not the fluff.

She already has won the hearts of national population with her determination, couragous, and bravery. Yes, her story is emotional, but I would rather not watch the movie. The movie is certainly none of my business...its Jessica's not mine.

I don't see a movie on Elizabeth Smart, so why all of a sudden does Hollywood think that they can make a movie on Jessica Lynch?? Elizabeth was gone of 9 months and she was found alive. Jessica was gone for weeks, she was found alive... There really isn't a difference...they both were brainwashed into captivity and were held against their will! We all can speculate what went on, but only Elizabeth and Jessica can tell their stories, not Hollywood.

It's outrageous streetsoldier...they'll do anything for ratings, just to make a buck...

I've always had tremendous respect for the legendary Tennessee sheriff Buford Pusser, but I could never watch the part "Walking Tall" where is wife is murdered. I lost my mom just as suddenly, my dad lost his wife....it just hit too close to home

I had a difficult time watching a tv show "Eight is Enough" for the same reason...because the writers wrote Diana Hyland's death from cancer into the script. Even decent shows such as Full House...the episode where they show the girls the video of their deceased mother...I watched that with tears in my eyes, so did Becky. We know that pain and feeling of loss.

I've often wondered how the movie Walking Tall; and the sequels that followed affected (one of which depicts Sheriff Pussers dead body being found by his daughter Dwana ) Sheriff Pusser's children. I found out over the internet that Mike Pusser is a Tennessee Highway Patrolman, and Dwana and her husband own a restaurant in the Selmer area.

I've heard reports that singer Loretta Lynn can't even bear to even watch "Coal Miner's Daughter" since her husband passed away a few years ago.

This movie idea by NBC is ridiculous...to go ahead without getting either the Lynch family's rights or permission is nothing short of a slap in the face. There's no way Jessica Lynch will be emotionally well by November...according both to press reports and friends, Jessica is not talking much about what happened to her while being held prisoner...she seems happy and cheerful, but I know what's going one; especially when I know she keeps telling Dee and Gregory she wants to GO HOME...not to Fort Bliss, but back to the safety of her own home.

That really scares me...the worst thing Jessica could ever do is withdraw into a shell. She needs to talk it out..with those who love her and counselers...and that may take time..lots of time--and lots of understanding. There's a lot of hidden pain and agony underneath the smiles...more than most of us can imagine.

I saw a small sample (compared to what Jessica may experience) of that with Becky--horrible nightmares, depression, eating disorders, uncontrolled crying...sometimes screaming. All I would do is hold her and let her get that pain out. I'm so grateful to my brother in law. He was so wonderful and understanding the first year they were married.

Jessica's case goes far beyond what Becky ever experienced...she sustained several gunshots, killed several Iraqi soldiers, saw friends shot and killed...and God only knows what she went through while those sorry #$#$#$$# had her. Her back wasn't fractured by accident, neither was her left leg....electric shock torture devices were found right next to her bloody uniform....and it may have even been worse

That just makes this NBC movie of the week idea utterly sickening to me...especially only a few months after her ordeal..
Am I the only one shocked that some callous network hasn't already produced a movie about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I'm honestly surprised it hasn't happened.

Someone should at least TRY to get to a friend of the Lynch family (JetMaxx?), tell them what NBC is up to, and find a link for all of us to register our "extreme displeasure" with NBC for doing this...maybe under enough pressure by all concerned, they will "back off"? (I also noted that CBS is considering the same thing...AP, not the Reuters link.) :grrr:

You echo my sentiments exactly RP...damn!!

Someone (an elderly neighor--he's kinda senile) actually had the stupidity to ask me "are you going to go see Jessica in the hospital"? (in D.C.) I said what do you think? (IDIOT!!)

The only way I'd go to the hospital in D.C. or her home in Palestine would be if her parents thought it would help her get better, which it probably won't. If I were asked to help OR told she wished to meet me when they return to D.C., I'd be on an Airtran or Delta flight ASAP....but ONLY in that case. I'm doing the best thing for Jessica I can right now. She can look at that website, listen to the soft background music, and relax...read or let her mom read her those get well wishes and tributes.

I've been there, so has Becky...if she ever needs us, we're there. If she needs someone to talk to, to vent to, a shoulder to cry one...we're there. I'd be very honored to exchange emails with Jessica or any member of her family....just as you and I do RP.
I'd love to learn some member of Jessica's family was a weather enthusiast....it would make my year. Granny already said she thinks Jessica's family and mom's are related (how she's knows is beyond me, but I didn't believe her when she told me two girls that went to church either...and they were..they were her 3rd cousins. My grandmother also said Alan Jackson favored her uncle Leon Worthan...and it turns out he was related  ). Hey, crazier things have happened.

In my opinion, who Jessi will need most are those she trusts and loves...especially her mom, dad, brother, sister, aunts, cousins...that TLC that only a loving family can provide...in conjuction with excellent professional counselers.

Don't read me wrong...I'd be honored to meet Jessica and her entire family someday. I've experienced the gratitude and kindness of her family (a cousin), friends, neighbors, and residents from all across West Virginia. I already knew they were kind, because most folks in Appalachia are down to earth men and women that'll give you the shirt off their back....it's the same way in Hamblen and Cocke County, Tennessee where mom grew up, where many of my relatives live today. I have family in both Virginia and West Virginia...a first cousin in Bristol, VA; several distant cousins in Beckley, WV....cousins in Middlesboro, KY.

I just wish the media, the movie makers, and everyone else NOT caring about Jessi's well being would leave her and her parents the heck alone. Her getting well..physically and emotionally is all I care about.

Hey guys, here's the email I just sent NBC....think it's strong enough?

--------------------------

Greetings:
This idea of rushing a movie about Jessica Lynch's rescue onto television this year is ridiculous. Allow her to heal....she went through more torture abuse in nine days than most of us will experience in a lifetime.
I know from
personal experience...her physical injuries will heal in weeks, but the emotional wounds will likely take years. Jessica has served her country with honor and bravery. She and her family deserve more respect than this...far more.

One other point: there are members of the 507th from Fort Bliss still missing in action and captured. If they aren't accounted for by the airing date of this proposed movie, I can just imagine the absolute horror of Shoshona Johnson's family, Patrick Miller's family, Sgt James Riley's wife, and the others.....seeing the ambush reinacted on tv, seeing their loved ones being captured while they're still missing. I'm sorry, but it's beyond appalling...it's an outrage.

The miracle of Jessica Lynch being rescued has the storyline of a blockbuster movie.....a classic along the lines of Midway and Saving Private Ryan; IF everyone will hold their horses and let Jessica recover and give her accurate account of what occurred WHILE she was being held prisoner. Let her write it or give it with a healthy body and clear mind.

It's an incredible story.....with an unlikely hero....a petite 19 year old female supply clerk that fights with bravery when her convoy is ambushed, captured and brutally tortured, yet they can't break this seemingly fragile teenage girl. Then she's miraculously saved by an equally unlikely hero-- a compassionate Iraqi attorney with the chivalry of a knight from King Arthurs court; a husband and father that just happens to be in the right place at the right time; and cannot stomach the sight of an injured helpless teenage girl being slapped by a face by a barbaric bully. If he turns and walks away out of fear, she dies. Instead he risks his own life, and the lives of his wife and little girl to save another girl.

Don't ruin this incredible story with a botched up, thrown together farce when we don't even know what happened yet. Wait a couple of years.....it might be even more impressive. If the accounts of the ambush are true.....it might be Pfc Jessica Lynch, a petite little country girl and recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

I've never emailed or called to complain about a proposed show or movie before in my life; not to any network, but what NBC is proposing is wrong. It's a slap in the face of Jessica Lynch, her family, and the families of those brave heroes still captured and missing in action.

I won't watch anything this disrespectful, and assure you will encourage EVERYONE I know on the internet to do the same....and that is thousands upon thousands of viewers. I have a big mouth and love to type.

Yours Truly,
Perry L. Williams
