Arizwx is taking applications...as mentioned, this will be a "Knight Out", as "j" and I are in chivalric orders ("j" is a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, I'm a Companion Sir Knight Templar).

Be sure to back up-thread and see what such a scene would entail, historically...this should be GOOD! :D

OK, Iv'e been lurking long enough. I'll accept Azskyman's premise that I am walking in to a Storm 2K mixer. This is crucial, because my demeanor varys all over the place, depending on the circumstances. I can be anywhere from gregarious to annoyed that I'm wasting my time. I'll be in the gregarious mode. So here I come into the big room filled with anticipation. Just a shade under 6', carrying 220 lbs fairly well, short dark brown hair, balding on top, neatly trimmed beard and mustache. Metal rimless glasses, dark brown eyes, and slightly cross-eyed looking. I see myself as kind of dorky looking, but that's a cover. I'll be wearing khakis and an oxford shirt, top button unbottoned, and docksiders. (If you were to surprise me on a weekend, I'd be wearing indecently short, cut off sweat pants and an old ripped t-shirt, and probably hadn't showered since friday morning.) As I approach I'll look intently at all the people I meet, and study their faces. I'll be trying to integrate the face, voice, and demeanor with the board personas. I like to listen more than I talk, because I think that all people have something worthwhile to say, and I might learn something from anyone. I'll ask questions to keep the conversation going. It's usually easy to get people to talk about themselves. I've been accused of analyzing people, but I really just enjoy watching and listening. I'm going to feel a little awkward, because even though we all yak away on the boards, we really don't know each other that well and don't have that many shared experiences to talk about. Even so, I'll have a stupid grin on my face and joke around. I speak with a soft voice. I'm usually at my best when I'm doing something with someone, rather than just sitting and talking. When we're doing something, it smoothes out the awkward silences, because there's a purpose for being together. How's that?

As an icebreaker...

#86 Postby azskyman » Sat Apr 12, 2003 9:09 am

Well, of course, we're all doing well at the icebreaker and we've obviously loosened up a little.

I can't believe that amanzi has spilled two glasses of punch already and arizwx is so surrounded by the ladies that I haven't yet been able to wander over to say hello! Dah, is there a place where I can get a number to be next in line for a handshake?

And pictures...I can't believe everyone brought pictures to share but me.

"These are my kids. This is our puppy. Here's me in the snowstorm last January."

And of course my wife has been getting some attention with her vivid true story about being picked up twice in that car by an F4 tornado back in 1967.

Meanwhile...I'm doing my bobblehead and handshake reassuring everyone that they are having a good time...even though some don't know it just yet.

So...there's a special announcement about to be made...all is getting quiet. What could it be?

Sorry I'm late to the party! Great thread! I'm a 46 year old male, 5'8", 160lbs. I am definitely from the "old school". I believe that chilvary is not dead. The most important things in life are God, family, country, and honor. I also believe that there is a certain order to the world. Sure, things have a way of getting out of balance but things always come back to the center over time.

My father was a Southern Baptist minister but taught all 4 of us kids to make our own decisions and be accountable for them. It was served us well throughout out lives! Being a minister's kid and moving every couple of years you have to learn to meet people quickly. You also learn that in spite of all our differences, that everyone has good to be found inside. Some people just make you work to find it! :-)

I spent 9 years in the Air Force as a communications technician. Since the first time I ever got in trouble in school it was for drawing "war plans" in class in the first grade, I think my servie was pre-ordained. During my time in the service I had the opportunity to travel to the Pacific, Alaska, and Europe. I also had the chance to work on several systems during their initial test and deployment phase including the GPS and cruise misssile systems.

I am the father of 4 independent thinking (read stubborn, can't understand where they get that from :-) ) children. Two are now married and my oldest, Marshall, has made me a grandfather for the first time My oldest daughter and her husband are now talking about having their first and I can't wait! Revenge is sweet! LOL

I truly enjoy all kinds of social activities and love being around people! At the same time I treasure quite time alone. Maybe my own way of achieving balance :-) I love to fish, golf, bowl, dance, read, and spend time in my wood shop. As the oldest living male in my family, I have inherited tools from my great-grandfather on down. I get a sense of connection with those have gone before me as I use the same tools they did throughout their lives. Someday they will be passed to my son as well.

I call myself a "liberal" conservative! I think we have a responsibility to take care of those less fortnuate in the world but that the best way to do it is through a hand up not a hand out! People should be given assistance to get back on their feet but it should also come with the opportunity and requirement to learn a skill and work. There is no excuse that we have 100's of thousands in this country without medical coverage. This is truly a shame in the world's richest country.

Marshall - not to turn this into a political foray, but I couldn't agree with that statement more! See, we are closer in our beliefs! :D

Don't wait too long my good freind!Actually..I am flattered. So many interesting people, willing to discuss my favorite topic..ME!Hehehe. 8)
I've been nursing this Goblet of Chard so long,I need a chilled topper if Amazi can pour it without spilling it,I would appreciate it! You see, there is a primo example of my Disarmingly Charming Arrogance.Would you expect any less from a Flyboy? I noticed too, that there are two lines. My Studly Pup Franklin seems to have his own entourage of Female Pup Admirers!Go FDR!Like Master,Like "Son"!
I have notice a few more entries to our guestlist,MOST impressive credentials indeed.I must say though, that our female contingincy is filled with beautiful, charming and very intelligent women.Lucky guys that have these little sprites to brighten thier lives.
Marsall, beautiful family!Great background!I am a GPS 'freak',having sailed the Pacific before the handhelds, and just the original Loran and LoranII of the day.I used one of the first NT based on board Raytheon SATNAV systems on "SongbirdII",a 1998 1/2 Beechcraft Baron 58P.I also had the Twin Sixes Supercharged(top end 190kt,or 219 mph)) and she was fully pressurized to her max ceiling of 22,500 ft.ASL
Also,a Full Color Aviation TDWR(Terminal Doppler Wx Radar),which is much faster than the 88-D product for use by the general public. The Color Avionics and Digital Lightning CG Overlay in Loop/near realtime with Altitude and Alarm status for the CBs in the Sector. An engineer from Raytheon and Lear/Bombardier here in Tucson worked closely with Global Atmospherics aka:Vaisala LightningStorm to complete the sensor network uplinks for use at the new Hong Kong Intl. The EPAC storms and some of the Altitude Phemoms here in S AZ and Offshore NW Mexcio, and into San Diego mimick some of the Oceanographic and Topographical as well as Urban 'False Echo' difficulties that were ironed out with calibrations to the beam.It was interesting,as I know our Military is employing some or all of this technology in Iraq and Afghanistan.I look forward to a discussion sometime,if you wish.
Amazi...!!!Not again!Thank goodness it's white wine!!!
Please excuse me,someone loaded the MJs 'Thriller' CD and 'Billie Jean' is just too hot a tune not to dance to...any takers???
As Skyman says:Take a number!C'mon Steve, let it rip dude and Crank It! 8) Firehead..Borrow the 'Prince' CD from your Dad..or Miss Mary."'Little Red Corvette"..Cue it up!Next, cue up my 'Billy Ocean"CD..and VbHouTex HAS to have his 'ZZ TOP' 'Best Of' CD with him! It's a Texas Thing. To slow her down,'Journey' is my choice along with 'Foreigner','Pink Floyd' and 'Tears For Fears'.This is gonna be a HOT AZ night! 8)
After all as 'Madonna' would say:This is a "Holiday",so it's time to'Celebrate'!Welcome to the Great American West Friends!Where We Love to Party!Breakfast in San Diego on the Beach anyone? It's a short trip! 8)

DJ - It's 11:00 am Sunday morning and you've got me dancing already!!! Great choice of tunes! I love line dancing - Macarena, Electric Slide and the good ol' Hustle. I like dancing with gentlemen too, though I tend to be a leader myself - I'd need some lessons on some of those dances though...Breakfast on the beach huh? Now, I'm thinking Beach Boys! Good Vibrations!

Oh I love the Beach Boys and the hanging out on the beach. Back in the days of the cassettes - LOL - I had one that I wore out of the Beach Boys - played it all summer long.

Of course dear sir, I am not in the habit of spilling a good wine! My mother would be furious, all those etiquette lessons would be down the drain in her eyes if I did that! LOL.

I would gladly pour you another. I have made a discovery a little bottle of De Martino-Viognier (hmmm rather yummy) Anyone care to try some. OOO I think we should have a wine tasting. Who is in charge of these tunes, cant have a wine party in silence ;)
