Boycott MSN Hotmail?

#1 Postby streetsoldier » Sat Apr 12, 2003 1:53 pm

This is what my wife is doing in protest over NBC's making of a "Jessica Lynch" movie.

Question...does MSN OWN NBC, or the other way around, or is NBC merely a "contracted" news agency for MSN?

I ask, because Hotmail IS my only "private" E-mail account (I don't use the "home server" Outlook Express, as the family's name is on it...the wife's idea). I've had VERY bad experiences with Yahoo!, and I can't afford a "pay" service.

Post now, operators are standing by...

MSN is Micro-Soft Network. I recently found out that if you do not have any activity on your hotmail account for 30 days they will delete it. When you try to reactivate the account you will have to pay for it. (19.95) a year!! That is ridiculous.

My sister had to find that out the hard way. She now uses netscape for her email. It is free and she does not get anymore "junk mail" like she did with hotmail. I use Yahoo and have not had any problems as of yet.

sunny,

I have had two Yahoo! accounts...each in turn. Both were "pirated" by sickos who somehow used my account address to send pornographic spam. :grrr:

I had to unsubscribe each account and Yahoo! Messenger services because of this, and Yahoo! said that they can't stop, or control people who can (and will) do this.

Yahoo has a spam filter, and mine works just fine so far.

Spam filters are fine, but the problem with Yahoo! is that "pirating" of YOUR adddress can, and has happened more times to more people than I care to recount here. Yahoo! is a very "unsecured" E-mail service, though it does have its good points (not as restrictive as AOL, and you don't have to pay for it), but security is much better in MSN or Hotmail, where I have had NO problems at all.

I hardly use my Hotmail account anymore, but I don't think boycotting Hotmail would affect the way NBC does business.

Hey streetsoldier,

I don't think it will have any effect on NBC. I believe it is only a business relationship between the two BTW.

Goto your ISP's Cust. Service page. Some ISP's offer free additional email accounts. My Wife and I have sep. email accts. - w/different user names and passes.

I already have, and our ISP server offers only one per customer/family. Just as well, since I have no inclination to relinquish my personal MSN/Hotmail account.

I abandoned my hotmail account, which was 99%
porno spam, and, even uninstalled my msn messenger due to
problems locking up every time I tried to open it. So far, my
yahoo has been quiet to spammers. Really, guys, I could
give a rat's patoosh about the deal on Viagra...... :o

I boycotted my AOhell address...due to the massive spam emails! I mean massive!!! I currently use Hotmail and have my filter set on "Exclusive" because of the spam. Normally, I don't have any problems, but there are days that the delete button gets its use!

Actually, you don't have to pay for Hotmail at all, even when signing back up. But they make you think that you do. When it has you select account type, you have to look somewhere down at the bottom of the page is small print for the free account link. It's still there and it's still free.

uh oh so do we all have to switch to linux and boycott GE as well. B/c GE owns NBC. But don't do that b/c my mom works at GE...don't want her losing her job over something as trivial as this  . People in the tv business have probably done worse.
