I had to do damage assessments after the storms from Belle Glade north (east side of lake). The environmental damage was extensive. The structural damage to homes and business along the lake was sad. Most of the structures were poor quality. The Pahokee marina was destroyed. The storms made a bad situation (economically) much worse.

Oh my goodness, we used to live on a canal with only 20 feet of backyard off of Lake Okeechobee in Buckhead Ridge. I can't imagine the extent of damage incurred by that property.

Good thing that dry air that is keeping the tropics quiet is also keeping less rain than usual from falling here.

The Gulf water off Ft Myers beach is brown because of the release and tourists are complaining...

that's really sad
what many people do not understand or think about is the long lasting environmental effects of hurricanes.
Once you have lived through a hurricane, you realize that it takes years for the balance of nature to be re-established.
