October 2004: Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Very Dry

#1 Postby donsutherland1 » Mon Nov 01, 2004 8:43 pm

During October, the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S. saw much drier than normal conditions. In fact, New York City saw its 15th driest October on record with just 1.18" of rain.

Select Rainfall Amounts:
Boston: 1.90"
New York City: 1.18"
Washington, DC: 1.74"

When temperature and precipitation data for all three cities is considered, October 2004 most resembled October 1945:

Code: Select all

City:  Boston            NYC               DCA
Year   Temp.   Precip.   Temp.   Precip.   Temp.   Precip.
2004   53.8°   1.90"   56.0°   1.18"   58.3°   1.74"
1945   53.1°   2.23"   56.2°   2.03"   57.6°   1.34"

If that trend continues i think it will have affects on the up-comming winter. Here we have had slightly above average rains for the month.
