Backyard Ponds

#1 Postby weatherwunder » Sun Apr 13, 2003 10:25 am

We just added 1 ton of flagstone to our backyard pond. It is great, birds and dogs and cats all hang out by it.

We have 2, one in the front yard, one LARGE one in the back yard. Our neighbor owns a back hoe business, one Saturday he wasn't doing much, I asked him if he would dig a new Koi pond for us, I went into the house to get us a beer, the phone rang, by the time I returned outside he was done and had dug the pond 5 times LARGER than we wanted. It's over 6 feet deep, 10 yards long by 10 yards wide. The dogs LOVE the ponds

I have one. About 800 gallons. I bought 10 feeder goldfish
from Pet Supermarket for $1.00. They're about 8" long now. Then I made the mistake of buying some swordtails and now they won't quit having babies.I have a bridge across it and big rocks around it. Lots of plants. I love it though I wish it was self -cleaning.

Not if you add fish. You can have some swordtails.
Free to good home.

There are fish ponds all along I-95 where I am.....they dug the ponds for fill to construct the interstate. But I would love to have been one of those fortunate ones whom owned the land and was paid to get their ponds!! :o

No, I do not have a backyard pond and wouldn't be interested.

There is no room behind my house. I had a large backyard in Massachusetts, but no one had any such thing as a backyard pond. Some residents where I live (some just down the street) have ponds behind their houses. I am pretty sure they are man-made.

I have a HUGE creek running around the property, lovely for the frogs and mosquitos. NOT lovely for me! I would love to have a nice pond with goldfishies and pretty plants, but we dont own this house, so none for me.

Not yet, but I've certainly thought about building one. My backyard is actually a rolling hill, but right in the middle of the yard, there's a flat spot, making a perfect area for a little pond. I am not talking about anything big, just a small-enough one. Right now, I have a make-shift pond made out of an old cast-iron kitchen sink covered in plastic. It's not too appetizing to the eyes, but it's not out in the middle either, it's actually quite hidden. I mostly have it for a bird bath. :)
