I'm shaken by a conversation I had with my neighbor..

While taking an early evening stroll, I came across one of my neighbors. I stopped to chat a few minute; and found to my surprise that he was a Desert Storm veteran.
I've been living two houses down the street from him for six years and didn't even know it. He said whatever I thought the Fedeyeen did to Jessica Lynch, to multiply it--and it would still be worse He was on a tank crew during Desert Storm, and said he saw things that would haunt him till death.
Among them was a couple of his buddies the Fedeyeen got ahold of.

One they had tortured to death by burning him...my friend said he couldn't say anything more, it was too painful. This guy is 6'3"-225 and nearly crushed my hand when he shook hands. He's a tough guy, builds houses for a living, and he said just thinking about what Jessi Lynch endured brought tears to his eyes...said his wife had been in tears several times today. I honestly believe he knew more that he would tell me; that maybe he's spoken or emailed some buddies of his still in the army.

I'm not trying to put Jessica on a pedestel above all other POW, MIA, or KIA; only plead with everyone not to say things like they don't care, or she's no hero. Not unless you've done what my neighbor and my dad have. Serve your country and what happens in war, visit hospitals like Walter Reed and see what war does to people....the real horror of war...

Here's something to think about...and the reason I think my friend is holding back info from me: When I mentioned some were saying Jessica deserved a Congressional Medal of Honor, he interrupted me; and said "Perry, lets not even go there. There are more important things to Jessica Lynch than any medal.... Things like walking and being able to have children someday"

I now know what DJ meant last night. I try to think in civilian terms. I've never served in the military, so I see things as torture (beatings, sexual assault) that are actually mild in comparism to what they can really do to you. Can anyone think of a torture that could be worse to a young woman that loves children than to do something to her so she'll never have any of her own?

Just something to think about...

One more point....to those that are sick of hearing about Jessica Lynch. Don't worry my friends, with the seven POW's released today, you'll hear plenty about other heroes. Heroes like Shoshona Johnson, Ron Young, Dave Williams, Patrick Miller...and so on. You'll likely hear lots about them at Memorial Day activities...while Jessi is still lying in pain in the hospital wearing pink casts on three of her four limbs. You'll hear all about Ron Young being honored here in Douglasville on July 4th, and Patrick Miller recieving the same honor in Kansas---while Jessi Lynch sits in a hospital still in rehab, still in pain, and likely still trying to learn how to walk again

What good will the Congressional Medal of Honor be if she can't walk into Congress to recieve it? What good will the three new cars she supposed to get be if she lacks the strength in her legs to ever drive again? I feel compassion for her on a personal level....not as a soldier, but as a teenage girl that may never walk, run, or swim again; or feel the warmth and love of her own new born baby. Darryl said the Fedeyeen meant to torture Jessica to death...just like they did to Lori Piestewa.

They failed to do so, and that's likely why you saw "Men in Black" Secret Service agents escorting Jessi off that C-17 at Andrews yesterday; and why there's FBI agents guarding her room and ward tonight at Walter Reed. They may try to finish their mission. Darryl said they would never stop trying, unless there were none of them left

Perry,

God love you, man...but this is eating you alive. I've heard it said, "Let go, and let God"...now that all of our POWS are accounted for, maybe this is the time to take a BIG breather...go build a model, drive someplace where there is no phone/mass communications.

I do understand, but you have to take some time to take care of yourself, too. If I could, I'd be doing that myself...no way out for me, though.

Perry,

In my eyes - Jessica is gonna have a life to live - TO ME the real heros are the 114 who have lost their life - thats the ones we need to put on a pedestal and make webpages for..... Jessica is never gonna be the same and we aren't ever gonna know all the details either.....but she is going to wake up and live another day....while the ones who fought and gave their lifes are the ones that are HEROS.

Just my two cents.

I have o agree with streetsoldier here. We've all come to know Jessica's story but there has to be a time for healing, for her and you. It does no one any good to think about what might have happened. Often times our imagination is worse than reality. Let's give her a chance to heal. The story that needs to come out will. The part that needs to stay quite should and hopefully will! Love you brother but she's safe....let it go! :-)

Deep breath...

Time to heal. Yes....time to let things go. The future will
hold more...wait for it. Beating one's head on the present will
only cause one pain.

Deep breath, bro......(*smiling)

Guys, I'm sorry. I'm definitely in too deep...emotionally. I could feel no worse pain in my heart if it were Maddie lying in that hospital.

My dad told me the same thing tonight as you have. Maybe I need to take a few days away from the boards and try to destress.

God Bless,
Perry

Just like the POWs you have been following so full-heartedly (and what a splendid job you've done!), YOU need time to "decompress"...visit your counselor, pastor, talk things out with someone you trust...and try to concentrate on something that will lift your spirits for awhile.

This is what I attempted to get across to Perry the other evening..I believe he was in some ways offended.I tried to temper my remarks, choose my words carefully and lend a Soldier's point of view.He did not understand. Finally,he walked,as I do when I am stressed.I walked earlier with Franklin, and have one or two still to go,I am sure. The upshot is,that Perry found a person to connect with in person and put to rest some of his fears. This is positive.I am grateful.
