WXVINE/BNVN Hurricane Charley DVD

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Fri Nov 05, 2004 5:42 pm

I recently purchased and watched the Charley DVD. Being Charley was a very powerful hurricane which occurred during the daylight hours; I knew there would be some incredible video footage. Some very amazing video from ground zero. Excellent footage of a very powerful eyewall pounding Punta Gorda. The only minor drawback were the video cameras bouncing around to much. Some of the bouncing could not be helped due to the weather conditions. Also the windshields and camera lenses should have be cleared a little more often. Again this is very minor compared to the incredible footage.

The intensity of eyewall and dramatic video make the DVD worth the price. This DVD should shown to anyone living in a hurricane prone area at the beginning of each hurricane season.

One thing that stands out is the amount of flying debris and the extremely rapid movement of the clouds.....it looks like smoke blowing through the sky.

The eye footage and rapid 180 degree return of maximum winds is also just amazing. I have yet to see the very end of the DVD. Hopefully tonight I see the end.

Next up will be Richard Horodner's DVD followed by Mike Sudduth's DVD

I ordered it via a PayPal Account I setup. It only took 4 days but still awaiting Richard Horodners. Both were currently in stock. Mark's is still being finalized for shipping.

I ordered the Hurricane Charley video via this URL:

DVD update

#5 Postby hurricanetrack » Fri Nov 05, 2004 11:29 pm

Yes- those guys were in the right place for some exteme eyewall action. One thing you'll notice in my DVD is the amount of rain and water in the air as compared to the Weathervine/BNVN video. There was so much rain that it completely whited out the scene several times. Their footage is much "drier" but the winds were enough to cause all of that damage. Usually the wind increases when the rain increases- this makes sense considering that heavier rain would be indicative of stronger convection- thus bringing the intense winds down to the surface. I am not suggesting at all that we had higher winds than they did in Punta Gorda- it's just phenomenal to see the same hurricane from 5 miles apart- which you who ordered both DVDs will get to see. Think about this- while we were in the last minutes of the eyewall- they were in the calm of the eye. I wish I had thought to call Jeff Gmmons or Jim Edds while we were in the eyewall- oh well, too much going on!

Anyhow- my DVD is coming along. There are 5 hurricanes and two tropical storms to work in to it and the editing is meticulous. I am also scoring my own music to it in some places. It has to be just right- so it's taking a while. Also- who knows, maybe there will be one more hurricane before November ends! At least that's what one other thread was suggesting....my DVD will ship before Thanksgiving as long as the tropics behave.

Great video footage Jeff. I have watched it 3 times to really get the feel of the storm. You guys did a great job under extreme conditions. I truely hope the Houston-Galveston Areas do not see anything like Charley. We would see tremendous damage across Brazoria and Galveston Counties as well as Harris and surrounding counties.

Aw Yes......the interview of the bar patrons. Hardcore old Irish Man enjoying the beer and watching the show.

Thanks KatDaddy - Yes we had six camera's rolling the whole time. We are going to release a editors cut DVD after the holidays with all the hurricane intercepts on it. It will include some interviews of business owners during the hurricanes and some behind the scene moments that we did'nt want to publish in the main documentary.

Thanks again and glad you enjoyed it.

Take care,

JG

I also ordered the Charley DVD from BNVN and can't watch it enough! If you ordered from Richard Horodner he is somewhat slow in processing his orders, I waited 3 weeks for mine. Jim Leonard has a 60 min DVD from Charley at Port Charlotte, Richard Horodner has some of it on his but only 10 min. worth. Contact Jim Leonard for details at
