Well, UT is different from CA-not likely to see the resurrection of the OJ Jury as Jay Leno puts it in that state. California seems to have this hangup of not getting good juries in high profile cases. Incidentally, the US doesn't have a JUSTICE system-it's a LEGAL system-if you want Justice go to a Whorehouse, if you want to get screwed-go to Court.

And not only that, BUT the past 32 hours deliberations? All for NOTHING...the judge basically threw them out!
Really? That would be interesting. However, the alternative juror would already know the case and be able to step in. I don't think he threw out the past 32 hours of delib.

Oh yes he did.
That's from the CourtTV story on this situation here: http://www.courttv.com/trials/peterson/110904_pm_ctv.html
Judge Alfred Delucchi said juror No. 7 had been taken off the case and replaced by Alternate No. 1.
He then instructed the panel to disregard the past 32 hours of deliberations and start from scratch.

Wow. Thanks for the clarification and link. Most interesting stuff here, we may have some groundwork for appeals by either side.
