"Goodbye 92L" says the NHC

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Thu Nov 11, 2004 10:12 pm

A large low pressure system...located about 660 miles southwest ofthe southernmost Azores Islands...is producing gale force winds north of the center. However...showers and thunderstorms havedimished during the past 6 hours as strong upper-level northerlywinds have sheared the system. Further development is unlikely.

Sandy if it wasnt for the shear this MIGHT have been Otto. All in all though I do believe the Atlantic has shut down for the season.

Hold up, now. Remember, so far this has been a similar ending to the one in 2003. We were on a roll, then all of a sudden in mid-October, we just stopped. In early November, though, we had quite a few waves pop up, and we thought the season would keep going. But they never developed. Then in December... :P

The point I'm trying to make is, you can't say it's over until it's over. E-Pac, don't raise your championship banner just yet. :)

This isn't 2003 though. El Nino has arrived.

Although a very weak el nino event, so I would not take to much comfort in that.

2002 was a weak el nino event and look how quickly that season shut down.

Well, whatever the case it is looking less and less likely that we are going to have Otto anytime soon. On the other hand - there are still around 3 weeks to be proved wrong. Personally, I think that the storms we had were enough - but if Otto forms far out to sea with no effects to anyone, another one wouldn't be so bad. It would bring us level with the E. Pacific, anyway.

I guess I'd be OK with a tie. Then at least the E-Pac wouldn't get to raise a championship banner. :grrr:

<sigh>... Ok, if it makes you feel any better, we got 'em 14-12 on named storms. Happy now? Just hope they don't go for two.
