A rundown about what happened in Puerto Rico with this rain event.

Around 60 families in refuge schools as their homes were flooded.

Some Mudslides closed around 30 roads around the island.

A huge rock fell over a home but nobody was hurt.

Around 6 rivers went over their banks and some creeks too.

Coastal flooding occured as the big swells 8-12 feet crashed with the coast. Some beach erosion occured.

So that was in summary the most important things that occured with this rain event in Puerto Rico as this elongated low pressure trough moved slowly thru the area. But the light at the tunnel is seen as dry air already has commenced to penetrate Puerto Rico from the north and better weather is expected for Monday however a weak cold front may bring another round of showers by tuesday but much less that what this trough brought.

msbee, hope we ALL get to dry out! My yard is sloggy wet (technical talk for ground completely saturated and standing water on top!) this morning and luis, I hope you are right and that *train* look on the radar is wrong this morning!

. discussion...
s/w dropping into w atlc upper trough has aided in giving enough
northerly push into the local region to finally nudge to the
southeast the elongated llvl trough that has been lingering across
the region for the past several days. heavy rains across st croix
during the evening hours induced flash flooding and warranted
warnings for the island ... but that activity has since shifted
southeast into the caribbean ... leaving isolated to widely scattered
showers affecting st croix. elsewhere across the region overnight...
shallow low and middle clouds producing modest showers have produced
very little in the way of rain coverage across the other local
islands. however ... since 5:30 am ... nws doppler radar has shown
scattered showers of moderate intensity sinking southward towards
the north coast of puerto rico that will affect the northern
municipios sunrise through 8 am or so. a mild drying trend is
expected to prevail for the next 24 to 36 hours before another
boundary ... this one a true cold front ... sinks into the region
tuesday night and will create increased convergence and scattered to
numerous showers along and ahead of the front. the front is forecast
to move slowly across the local islands overnight tuesday and could
snag across the interior of p. r. wednesday morning. w atlc upper
trough will reorganize across the n carib next few days as a series
of s/w moves into mean troughing across the atlc to create unstable
conditions aloft by tuesday. however ... middle atmosphere is
currently very dry and stable and upper dynamics appear to be
disconnected from lower trop attm ... but may destabilize and moisten
by wednesday.

The sun has not comed out for 4 days now in San Juan and today I am waiting for it to appear. But clouds still are lingering and scattered showers still are dotting the northern part of the island. Now a cold front will enter the area by tuesday night bringing more rain.I hope that after midweek we can finnally see the sun.

Luis...the sun is out here (I just scrubbed all the slippery mold off my front steps, hoping the sun might dry it away - "mild drying trend" hopes)! But that doesn't mean it won't be grey and raining in a few minutes. So far no rain this morning...but I'm taking my foul weather jacket with me when I head to work. Hope you get the sun soon, even if for a few minutes...it does help. :sun:

Safety for us is not slipping in the mud or moldy spots ;) Thanks! Hopefully the sun has a chance to dry the ground up today - it is a gorgeous morning here and no one will be complaining if it actually gets *hot* before noon.
