WeatherTap vs Accuweather

#1 Postby Pileus » Wed Nov 17, 2004 10:34 pm

Friends I need some comparisons between these two before I download
one or the other. Accuweather looks like it has more products especially
radar images but I keep reading that WXTap's downloads are faster.
Any suggestions? Thanks

WeatherTap, which I have, is primarily a current weather provider and the images come up fast. It's the preferred service for chasers and at 6.95/month is a bargain. If you want forecasts other than the NWS ones then you might want some other service. For the model runs, there are a host of free sites available where you can get them so there's no need to pay for model data.

The radar and satellite products at WeatherTap seem to be far superior to any other sites that I have seen. At the same time, there are many free images that are nearly as good. It really depends on whether you want to compile them into a list or bookmarks, or if you want it all from one site. Regarding models, every site I use is free and there is no reason to pay for model data. I've compiled a list of the 3 free sites I use the most.

Ditto, ditto.

WxTap's base $6.95/mo is the best value.

Web based RadarLAB is where I live during svr events. Very reliable stability.

Downloadable WxTAP Studio is great b/c the application stands alone and you can use the browser windows for other products.

I did see Accu's beta with models and while nice, not nice (or faster updates) enough to warrant the expense.

I always suggest Weather TAP and BufKit (FREE from NOAA)
