Where were you when JFK was shot in Dallas on Nov/22/63?

Once again another anniversary is upon us about that tragic moment in US history on november 22nd.I know that many of you haved not even borned but also many are old enough to remember this black piece of history for the US.

I was at school at that time and at the lunchbreak when the news came to us about the assasinnation of JFK.After that clases were suspended and my father came to pick me up and went to our home to see all of what was going on.

24 1/2 years from being born. My dad was only 10 months old. My mom wasn't alive yet.

Let's see, I was 4 yrs old then, REALLY don't remember TOO awful much! We were living in Ruidoso, New Mexico at the time, I do *kinda* remember seeing the images on tv, ALL black and white *gasp*.....no COLOR back then!

I was walking down the hall at school heading into my biology class in 7th grade and my friend from across the street came running up screaming "Kennedy's been shot" After that we did complete classes that day but were off till after the funeral. All images that are still strongly etched in my mind.

I was in study hall in 9th grade and had just walked into the office on an errand for the teacher. The secretaries were all crying and watching the TV.

I wasn't born yet.

The first significant news event that happened during my lifetime (besides the Vietnam War, which was already underway) was MLK's assassination. It was two week's to the day after I was born. I don't remember it -- I was still in a neonatal ICU.

I was in 7th grade geography when the news came. A teacher came into the class crying and on the verge of hysterics. My teacher was a no nonsense kind of man and got her out of the class. I bet she got an earfull from him concerning her behavior. I remember being in shock and thinking this can't be happening.

I was still a little more than 7 years away. 9/11/01 will be my generation's 11/22/63, at least from a "where were you when it happened" standpoint.

Hmmmmm.......interesting thread.

I was in high school with classmates (sophmores) watching the Jr./Sr. play. During the short intermission, the principal came out to announce what had happened. We were all stunned......but, at first we were only told of the shooting......I think his actual death had not been broadcast yet.

The play continued.....but it was difficult to watch, and I'm sure even MORE difficult to be up there on that stage.

The TV coverage played again and again......and the nation truly mourned. So many still unanswered questions about this.......p

I lived in New Orleans where my father was stationed at the time. Because if the assasination he was placed on alert.

I was on shift at the weather station at Whiteman AFB when the news came in. We didn't have much time to think about it immediately since we went on Alert immediately. I was on my last shift before a long break that I had been looking forward to but wound up, like everyone else, in front of the TV except when I went to Church where we were told of Oswald being shot and killed.

Was in NYC and was home with some friends and we were listening to the radio--which was playing a comedy record by Vaughn Meader called The First Family--a spoof on the Kennedy White House--it used to be pretty funny. There were various skits--one was Jackie Kennedy giving the tour of the White House and one of John Kennedy explaining the bath tub toys--"And the Rubber Swan is MINE!"...

And they interrupted the album to say that JFK had just been shot and I don't think the album was ever played again.

And then, as they continued the news coverage, we gradually realized that this was not a joke in some extraordinarily bad taste but a real nightmare.

I was in 2nd grade watching the parade on a tv set our teacher had brought in just for the purpose of seeing the President.

I was in 2nd grade at the time, so I was in school. Old enough to remember it was a big deal but not old enough to really comprehend it all at the time.

I'd just finished a 6th grade oral report on dinosaurs and pertinent geological strata, when the news was given by loudspeaker from the principal's office.

Being in 6th grade, we were at the "top of the pecking order" (K-6), and a TV was wheeled in immediately. I can't recall much of the conversation in class thereafter, but it was hushed and mostly speculative.

It was grey and raining that afternoon...I walked home alone, taking a long route, thinking about the import of the news; when I arrived home, my mother and one of my sisters were crying. The rest of the family trickled in soon after, equally in shock and disbelief.

That weekend was quiet and somber; my Dad, to get us away from the constant funereal atmosphere on the TV and radio, took us to our summer cabin to relieve the pall on Saturday afternoon, returning on Tuesday night.
