TRENTON, New Jersey (AP) -- Camden has been named the nation's most-dangerous city, snatching the top spot from Detroit, according to a company's annual ranking based on crime statistics.

Camden is bad news. I did a job there years ago. The public works employees need police escorts and someone to guard their trucks when they are working on the streets or sewers in some neighborhoods.

Ah yes, Camden - about 15 miles to the north of me. You DO NOT want to get lost there!!!

They are trying to re-vamp the waterfront by putting in the Riversharks AA baseball stadium, NJ State Aquarium, the Tweeter Center (don't ask), which is an outdoor concert venue plus new luxury apartments and condominiums other business. The Walt Whitman and Ben Franklin Bridges that cross into Philadelphia end up in Camden. Also, the Rutgers University Camden campus is in such a LOVELY area of the city!

My aunt just moved to Camden a few months ago. She is a newly-ordained minister of the Methodist church and wanted to be in an inner city environment so that she could try and make a difference. It helps that she has had some pretty extensive background with Spanish and hispanic people in general (after internships in Puerto Rico, the Bronx, and Guatemala). I'm sure she can help make a difference there, but all of my family has been pretty scared for her safety. I guess she has decent security at the church and at her home (she got a BIG dog not too long ago), but this news won't make my family happy. It'll be interesting to hear what she has to say when she visits home for Thanksgiving.

I'll keep her in my prayers. I'm sure that she will leave her mark in that church and her background will be a big help. The biggest problem in that city is, you guessed it, drugs. I'm sure that she will be embraced by the community.
