I was 8 and in Third Grade. Our school/church's pastor dismissed school early, soon after the shooting. He told us President Kennedy had been shot and that we should go straight home. And pray for him. To this day, that walk home and the following truly tragic days following the 22nd, are as vivid today as they were back then. I can even picture the TV my family owned - a small, black and white Muntz TV that we all watched.

Miss Mary,

We who lived through it were ALL black-and-white; we weren't "colorized/digitally remastered" until 1967.

My TV was also a Muntz. tiny screen...GREAT BIG, HUGE cabinet and single 14" speaker.

I have gotten this story wrong for so many years,
now, LOL, that I just called my Mom to actually
confirm where I was. I was 14 months old,
sitting in her lap, watching tv with her and my
older brother, and, the phone repairmen was there,
working on our phone. Of course, I don't remember
that day, at all.

Six years old in the first grade. Our teacher came into the classroom crying hysterically (the only time a teacher of mine ever cried in class in all the years that followed). Got out of school early that day. As this was my first experience with a major national event, I can still see the day's events quite vividly in my memory...

As Miss Mary said, I too was 8 and in 3rd grade and we were at recess swinging on the monkey bars and a couple of teachers came outside crying and tried not to let us hear what they were saying, but we did and heard that the President had been shot and then we watched as they lowered the flag to half mast and then everyone was sad and crying. I also remember watching B&W TV and it was so sad when they showed John John at attention when his daddy went by in the casson. I remember watching TV and seeing them show when Lee Harvey Oswald was shot too and I also remember when the Presiden'ts brother was killed after making a speech. It's strange what you remember from when you were 8 years old, but then when you get older you don't think 3rd graders or 8 year olds will remember something that happens during that time in their life.

And of course us remembering where we were and what happened dates us all!!
