just as sad as the mother that drowned all of her children a couple of years ago and attributed it to post-partum depression.

i think every woman who has ever had a child experiences PPD to even the smallest extent. Mine involved not sleeping and thinking i could never take care of this new little person who needed me for EVERYTHING.

but never anything more than that. no psychotic episodes or suicidal tendencies. that's just horrible.

its time to stop the pity for these moms. if a man cut off the arms of a woman he raped, there would be no pity for him. this baby was defenseless. the punishment for this must be severe. by the way, susan smith should have been executed.

who said anything about pity?

the death penalty doesnt fix anything for the family members left behind...( or IMHO, anyone else for that matter.)

for all of the spiritual quoting that goes on in here, what happened to Thou Shalt not Kill? Doesnt that apply to the death penalty too? I'd rather God make that decision, not me.

that brings up another point. i think another problem is the killing of the unborn. when, up to the second of birth, a baby can have its brains sucked brutally and hideously out, i think it devalues the life of babies generally. a mother may think,"gee, whats the diffierence in killing a baby before or after birth". in my opinion, the death penalty is handed out to millions of unborn humans, who have done nothing to no one.
susan smith, on the other hand, richly deserved the death penalty. she claimed she wanted to kill herself that day along with her kids, but she sure managed to jump out of that car before sentencing her children to a slow hideous death. she compounded that by blaming a black man for her crime.

It seems that post-partum depressed moms need another adult w/ them 24/7
just to prevent these kind of horrendous tragedies IMO!

i disagree eric. plenty of moms dont cut off their babies arms. people can make excuses for every crime if they want to. it boils down to personal responsibility.

Yes, I agree Helen...but it's why there are scores of child abuse tragedies in part in society, too. The shaken baby syndrome, the tossing the kid into a hallway wall...sorry for sounding graphic...but I think you get my point.

Looking out for the best interest of the children is all.

Good chance the (whatever the lady in Union, SC name is)...anyway her two boys and the Yates children would be alive today if there had been earlier intervention.

true eric. they would also be alive if their mothers hadnt brutally murdered them. time to drop the excuses for these monsters once and for all.
you can make the argument that every crime could have been prevented for one reason or another.

From what I read on the papers 2 days ago, she planned the sacrifice.
