<squeaks softly so not too many people can hear ignorant question> What's the difference between a regular TW and a PDS TW?
Its alright JenBayles. We are all here to learn!![]()
In a regular Tornado Watch, tornadoes are possible, but likely to be F2's or below.
In a PDS Tornado Watch, there means a dangerous situation. Parameters are in place for violent and destructive tornadoes. PDS stands for PARTICULARY DANGEROUS SITUATION. USUALLY, BUT NOT ALWAYS, this is when F4 and 5's occur.
This type of watch is issued when the Lead Forecaster feels there is a high chance of F2 to F3 or greater tornadoes.
In addition... from: http://www.spc.noaa.gov/faq/#2.7I noticed the wording "THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION" in some of your watches. What does this mean?
The "particularly dangerous situation" wording is used in rare situations when long-lived, strong and violent tornadoes are possible. This enhanced wording may also accompany severe thunderstorm watches for intense convective wind storms.
What???

Just North of Ship Channel
After several hours of partly to mostly cloudy skies, Dark low clouds are racing across the horizon. The sun is still peaking in and out with a few rain drops falling.

It is on it's way! Check out the radar!! A very strong squall line is about 70 miles West of Houston and moving this way at 35 mph. Western subs should begin to feel it's effects(winds of 60 mph or more an damaging hail as well as possible tornados-severaltvs sigs now) by around 10:00 pm.
ALL HOUSTON AREA POSTERS NEED TOBE PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE PROGRESS OF THIS SQUALL LINE!!!!

Right with you VB!
This is a very dangerous fast moving squall line. WE will see damage all across SE TX in the next 2-3 hours.
Very impressive system.

Houstonia's pre-storm checklist:
1) Got the flu? check!
2) doped up on Nyquil, unable to function? check!
3) terrified of thunderstorms, especially when alone? check!
4) alone? check!
5) leaky living room ceiling? check!
6) live in an area of town where the infrastructure causes power to go out when the wind blows? check!
I guess I'm all ready!

My apartment has gotten struck by lightning before and it caused about 300 dollars worth of electrical damage to my computer, modem and VCR.
Stay safe - I'll catch y'all on the other side of the squall!!
Power just flickered here so I'm right behind you....
