Holiday travel

Not sure if this is appropriate for a topic or not. Mods - move or delete if you need to, or combine with another topic.

We traveled to and from Chicago one Thanksgiving season. Leaving Cincinnati early Thanksgiving morning, interstates were light. We were amazed. That part of the trip worked out very well. However, to visit with family longer in the Barrington area, we stayed until Sunday morning - big mistake. We left as early as possible, but so did thousands of other motorists. And the wx didn't cooperate - temps hovering just above freezing, steady, driving rain. At any minute the rain could have changed to sleet but thankfully it didn't. What a very intense drive home that trip was! We regretted not leaving late Saturday afternoon. Instead we picked possibly the busiest travel day of the year - the Sunday after Thanksgiving - to drive home.

So heads up to anyone traveling this holiday. Be very careful if driving today - the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. And be extremely careful if driving the Sunday after. We saw so many accidents or near misses that trip home, we lost count. I was never so glad to pull into our driveway after that trip. Needless to say we've never been back at Thanksgiving!

If your travels take you to the eastern half of the country, say the Mississippi River and eastward, be very patient and drive carefully, expect large delays at the airport, etc. Snow in the north and severe weather to the south.

One thing about the airports: it is expected that this holiday season will see the most air travelers since 2000, before the Sept. 11 attacks. People are not afraid to fly anymore and airports will be packed.

Atlanta this morning, OMG, wiould have been better had it been snowing out there, maybe folks would have driven better! The traffic was awful. Had to take my husband to work in Alpharetta and then drive in the buckets of rain past Conyers to drop off a child then turn back and return to Marietta! YUCK! People, when it is that congested and pouring down rain, please SLOW DOWN! I have never seen so many wrecks as I have in the past two days. It seems that most folks driving out there on the major slabs have lost their minds!!!!!! I'm not going back onto a major road till the holiday weekend is over. Folks in the east, be careful of this storm, it is a nasty one.

BTW! Been waiting for the sun to come out to see the Fall leaves(lots of color finally), all it took was one good 60 mph wind to knock them all of the trees in my yard!

If this pattern keeps up around here, eventually, maybe, we will get on heck of a snow! Here's to a whole lot of HOPE!
